EDUCATION COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING LINK

CITT/ICTS Training Commission

Building Canada's Training Ecosystem: Learning Beyond the Classroom

Over the past several years, CITT/ICTS has strengthened national conversations around education through the work of the Forums, national advocacy initiatives, and the Education Commission. As these discussions have evolved, many critical issues have extended beyond post-secondary education into the broader landscape of professional training, workforce development, and lifelong learning.

While the Education Commission provides valuable leadership in supporting educational institutions, curriculum development, and advocacy for theatre production and design programs, CITT/ICTS recognizes the need to examine how professionals continue to develop throughout their careers. This includes ongoing professional development, mentorship, apprenticeships, industry certifications, emerging technologies, skills upgrading, and accessible pathways for practitioners who enter the sector through non-traditional routes.

CITT/ICTS invites participants to explore the potential creation of a dedicated Training and Professional Development Commission. Together, we will consider its purpose, identify gaps in the current industry landscape, and discuss how a national body could support continuous learning and strengthen Canada's live performance workforce.

This is intended to be an open dialogue rather than a presentation. The insights and experiences of members will help determine whether such a commission is needed, what priorities it should address, and how it can complement the important work of the Education Commission while advancing professional excellence across every stage of a career.

Co-Chairs:

  • Josh C McIntosh, Academic Department Manager for Production and Operations at the University of Alberta, In-Coming President, CITT/ICTS National Board of Directors.
  • Autumn Coppaway, Founder of the Miikana Project & Associate Producer at National Arts Centre - Indigenous Theatre, Vice President of CITT/ICTS National Board of Directors.

CITT/ICTS IDEA Commission

The Canadian Institute for Theatre Technology's Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) Commission seeks to foster a more equitable, inclusive, and accessible performing arts sector by supporting meaningful dialogue, resource sharing, and member engagement across the Institute.

Building on the work of the IDEA Committee, the Commission provides a sustainable platform for members to explore emerging issues, share leading practices, and advance initiatives that strengthen belonging, representation, and accessibility within CITT/ICTS and the broader live events & performing arts communities.

The Commission also aims to promote learning and awareness by developing resources, facilitating conversations, and sharing information through social media, the new Callboard, and other communication channels.

ROUNDTABLES - From 2020 to 2022

Presented by CITT/ICTS in collaboration with PMArts and TDArts, these 60-min discussions brought together professionals, educators and students from the live performance production and technology sectors, and offered a unique learning space where ideas, new practices, creative solutions, current challenges and successes are being shared through open and honest conversations.

The Education Roundtable was dedicated to keep the discussion going amongst educators, from both staff and faculty, of Theatre Production Programs across Canada during the COVID-19 pandemic, and focused on the challenges faced by educational institutions, while tackling important and sensible topics.

The Re-opening Roundtable discussed the COVID-19 closures and the challenges that come with re-opening venues, as well as the new and different conditions and procedures that applied at that time.

These roundtables are now closed.

Audio & chat are public. Video recordings are available to members only: Log in to watch!
