All that Glitters is not Gold: Painting the Magic  Explore painting methods to create metallic effects for both two-dimensional and three-dimensional surfaces 

Description: Human Resource Management in Cultural Organizations will be a highly participatory workshop that will examine best practices in HR planning and management, with an emphasis on the interconnected needs of the individuals and organizations, and strengthening your capacity to interact with, lead and develop your staff. The workshop will be tailored to the needs and priorities of managers in the live performing arts, and draw on participants? experience to enhance learning.

Are you new to the Eos family of consoles and ready to hit the ground running with your first show? Learn all the basics you will need to get started in our Essentials class. This class will give you a solid foundation with the Eos family of consoles and prepare you to grow your knowledge as you are ready.

LEVEL 2 ENHANCED     - 1 Day
Ready to move beyond the basics with your Eos family console? Build the skills you need to take your programming to the next level. Going beyond our Level 1 training, this class will get you going with additional features and functions of your console and get you on your way to programming like a pro.

DAY 1 - Fundamentals
This course will cover the fundamentals of using Vectorworks, including User Interface, File navigation, 2D drawing techniques, 3D modelling basics, key aspects of Document set up and Preferences, and a look at Resources. This is an essential foundation for using the Spotlight-specific portions of the application.

Duration: 1/2 day
 
Prerequisites: Basic computer use, basic drafting conventions or experience with another CAD application.
 

Description: Come join Jenny Knott, Rosco paint product manage/scenic artist, and Wendy Waszut-Barrett, president of Historic Stage Services LLC/scenic artist, to get hands on practice and improve your painting skills over two days. Learn both contemporary and historic painting methods. We will explore creating metallic effects for both two-dimensional and three-dimensional applications. This class will provide options for future projects, whether you are painting backdrops, props or costumes. Add some glitter to your golden experience at CITT/ICTS this year!

Level: General (for all)

After attending this workshop, participants will be able to

  • describe and apply the main functions of human resource management including: planning for succession, staffing (recruitment and selection), development (training, continuing professional education and competency development), compensation, and performance management.
  • Create human resource policies and practices that are consistent with the Canadian legal framework.
  • Tailor and apply HR management tools to build capacity in your organization.
  • Apply ethical standards and create professional expectations and accountability.
  • Support the role of governance and the development of HR policies within a live performing arts management context.

After completing the Level 1 class, you will be able to:

  • Identify key elements of the console user interface and navigation
  • Patch conventional and multi-parameter fixtures
  • Work with channels in Live mode
  • Record, select, and delete Groups
  • Record to, load, and clear Submasters
  • Record, play, and delete Cues
  • Understand Tracking and Block, cue timing, and Park
  • Manage show files (create new, save, save as)
  • Control non-intensity parameters at a basic level
  • Create simple step-based Effects 
 

After completing the Level 2 class, you will be able to:

  • Edit device attributes
  • Understand display layouts and workspaces
  • Record and recall Snapshots
  • Create more elaborate Groups
  • Be more effective using Submaster properties
  • Record and recall Palettes and Presets
  • Use Direct Selects
  • Take advantage of Discrete Timing and Multipart cues
  • Understand and use Auto-Mark, Update and other cue attributes
  • Create and use Relative and Absolute Effects
  • Create and use a basic Magic Sheet

Day 2 - Spotlight

This course will cover the basics of using Vectorworks Spotlight for the creation of a simple theatre venue and show design. Topics covered will include importing a base plan, creating a venue with seating, adding scenic elements on stage, the basics of Spotlight lighting, creating hanging positions and adding lighting instruments and accessories, focusing instruments and adding Label Legends, generating presentation views.

Duration: Full day

Prerequisite: Fluency with navigating the Vectorworks interface and all material & prerequisites covered in the Fundamentals course.

  • recreate historic and contemporary techniques of painting light, shadow and reflective light; learn how get the most out of a paint brush; and add new resources to their library for historic and modern materials, references and elevations.
