TORONTO, Ont. June 22, 2016 – The AFC is an expression of the community’s good will and on Monday, June 20th, entertainment industry members came together at the 20th Annual Big Swing Charity Golf Tournament to support the most vulnerable in their community and enjoy a great day of golf at the Royal Ontario Golf Club in Milton, Ont. The Tournament raised a record amount of $102,140 for the lifeline for Canada’s entertainment industry.

Chair of the Golf Committee and President of The AFC Fiona Reid, C.M., D.C.L, is pleased with the Tournament’s continued success. “A day like this can’t happen without the contributions of many,” said Reid. “We salute our co-presenter the Directors Guild of Canada Ontario (DGC Ontario) along with all our fabulous tournament donors and sponsors. Our special thanks to the Chair of the Fundraising Committee Wendy Moss for securing unprecedented support and putting us over the $100,000 mark in sponsorships for the first time, including our first ever Platinum Sponsor NABET 700-M UNIFOR. Thanks to the staff, golfers, volunteers and to our loyal Golf Committee members Judah Katz, Phil Flagler, Eugene Clark, and Board Member Sugith Varughese, whose hard work made sure the day ran smoothly. The AFC is indeed the lifeline for Canada’s entertainment industry, dispensing over $500,000 in emergency relief every year to help keep food on the table and a roof over the head of entertainment professionals facing bereavement, illness or injury. Our sincere thanks to everyone who supports the work of The AFC and helps to make this tournament a continued success.”    

At the post-tournament banquet, Joanne Barrington, Second Vice-Chair DGC Ontario, presented a cheque for $30,000 to The AFC. The AFC, in turn, thanks all its new and returning sponsors and donors for helping entertainment professionals in need by contributing to The AFC.

Previously known as the Actors’ Fund of Canada, through compassionate and confidential support, The AFC helps Canadian entertainment professionals maintain their health, dignity and ability to work. In the last 24 months, The AFC has distributed over $1.1 million in emergency financial aid to help entertainment professionals working in all aspects of film & TV, music, theatre and dance.
