Job Description / Duties

The Technical Theatre Specialist will work with the Director of Theatre Arts to support, develop, and grow the Theatre Arts program at King’s Christian Collegiate through technical theatre. In addition, the successful candidate will use their skills and knowledge as needed to help other school programming achieve a better performance and learning environment. They will aid in providing a safe and properly maintained stage for facility and community use.

Under the immediate supervision of the Director of Theatre Arts, the person holding this position is responsible for:

- Co-ordinating with the Director of Theatre Arts to plan the production season
- Co-ordinating with the Director of Theatre Arts on the design and building of all technical and creative elements for the production season
- Assisting with the design of the set, costumes, properties, lights, and sound for the season
- Acquiring and/or building the set, costumes, props, and other physical elements for each production on time and within budget
- Hanging and focusing lights and programming the lighting console for each production (with assistance as necessary)
Implementing the sound design for each production
- Co-ordinating with industry professionals who may be a part of production rehearsal processes
- Managing ticket sales (website, not front-of-house)
- Co-ordinating with the responsible parties and supplying technical needs (as needed) for: major school events, weekly Christian chapels (in-person and/or video), larger Christian chapels (e.g. Christmas and Easter), school assemblies or special events, in-school events (e.g. Coffee Houses, recordings), rentals (as necessary on a per-need basis)
- Maintain all technical equipment, including (but not limited to) lighting/sound equipment and tools
- Maintain a safe and clean workspace
- Lead the King’s Players Tech Crew and teach the necessary technical skills to operate theatrical equipment well and safely

Qualifications / Required Skills

The successful candidate will hold a bachelor or higher in technical theatre and will have knowledge in most areas of technical theatre.

Current systems in use at the school include: ETC Ion XE, Soundcraft Impact Si, and Shure ULX D.

Expertise is not necessary in all areas, but a willingness to be adaptable and learn will assist the applicant greatly.

Additional Information

This is a full-time position (maternity leave), normally aligning with the school day but requiring some flexibility for events outside of the school day. All King’s employees are expected to model exemplary professional behaviour towards students, fellow employees, and all others who come into the building.
