Job Description / Duties

Faculty/Department: Arts, Animation and Design 
Campus Location: Trafalgar (may be assigned activities at any Sheridan campus) once normal campus operations resume. This position is working onsite.

The Technical Director supervises the day-to-day operations of both Theatre Sheridan venues - MacDonald Heaslip Hall (MHH) and the Studio Theatre. They will act as a liaison for department staff and external partners providing direction and leadership of venue equipment, infrastructure, and some administrative matters. They work closely with students in support of their practical learning outcomes when working on production crew positions. The incumbent is responsible for the ongoing monitoring and control of venue records and document management, including technical drawings of the spaces, venue use and technical rehearsal schedules, equipment maintenance, and other records. The incumbent helps to develop policies and processes for the efficient operation and administration of the department and oversees venue use timetables that are compatible with academic timetables. Working in partnership with the Manager, the incumbent also supports budget development, long-term project planning, and monitoring for capital and operating budgets.

What You’ll be Doing
Providing leadership and supervision in performance venues to staff, students and creative guests through in-room technical support
Supporting installation of all scenic and technical elements in collaboration with staff, students and creative guests
Coordinating access to performance venues for staff, students, creative teams & guest instructors related to Theatre Sheridan operations. 
Collaborating with others to align venue operations with educational needs. 
Supporting access to venues from externals in collaboration with Production Manager, Ancillary Services, other space use requests.
Creating and maintaining updated digital assets related to all Theatre Sheridan production work, including design drawings, space use schedules, and venue crewing assignments for students.
Developing, updating and implementing safety policies, procedures and practices within MHH and Studio Theatre. 
Managing the use of physical space and equipment by establishing and overseeing an ongoing repair and maintenance plan for all venue equipment and infrastructure.
Overseeing operational and budget planning of resources allocation for annual productions, capital equipment and infrastructure.  
Performing other related duties as assigned. 

Qualifications / Required Skills

The successful candidate will also meet the following qualifications: 
2-year diploma in Technical Production for Theatre and Live events or a related field of study 
Minimum of 5 years of experience working as some combination of Technical Director, Stage Carpenter, House Technician, and/or Theatre Facilities Manager (Equivalency will be considered) 
Familiarity with OHSA regulations, specifically Fire Safety requirements & Construction/Work Zone rules
Experience with planning and coordinating events
Familiarity with budgeting and forecasting
Theatrical rigging knowledge 
Familiarity with Live Event Lighting & Audio systems 
Experience with leading teams such as students, industry professionals, etc.

Salary: Hiring Range: $76,998 - $81,810
