Performing scenic carpentry tasks
Overseeing the work of the Levels 1 and 2 Scenic Carpenters and Scenic Carpenter Practicum Participants
Assisting in the administration of the scenic carpentry department including overseeing the safety of assigned crews within the supplied frameworks of budget, staffing, equipment, space, and time
Staying current on related industry trends including the application of up-to-date techniques and use of special materials
Applying professional theatre techniques and methods to provide the quality, efficiency, and support level required by Performing Arts
Possesses at minimum, the equivalent of 5 years’ full-time experience as a working Scenic Carpenter in a professional music, theatre, opera, or dance company.
Able to perform satisfactorily all of the major job functions listed below without assistance and/or supervision:
Plan and coordinate a project
Build scenic components with wood and metal products and other materials using theatre construction techniques
Assemble automation systems
Install scenic components
Organize and maintain the scene shop
Safely operate tools and equipment
Comply with laws, regulations, and guidelines
The responsibilities of this position require the Scenic Carpenter to be available to work a flexible, rotating schedule.
The Level 3 Scenic Carpenter may be required to handle materials, or oversee other employees who are handling materials which are classified as hazardous under WHMIS standards and must be able to apply job-specific safety equipment.
Salary: This position pays between $22.04 and $24.50 per hour, depending on experience, working up to 40 hours per week on a rotating schedule.*Subsidized housing available
