Job Description / Duties

Key Deliverables/Responsibilities

1.     Production

- Supervision of load ins, performances and load outs of performance venues.
- Sourcing production equipment and rentals required for each production.
- Managing guest companies in-venue as required. This includes setting and managing crew calls and ensuring all technical requirements are within guidelines set by technical riders and set budgets.
- Manage daily, weekly and project deadlines as required by the demands of each individual production.

2.     Administrative & Budgeting

-  Draft detailed production schedules including all pertinent information relating to ABRC, IATSE Local and House Venue Crew in collaboration with the Technical Director and Wardrobe Manager.
-  Responsible for costing of production projects and keeping projects within budgetary guidelines set by the Director of Artistic Operations. 
- Track all expenses for the department.

3.      Facility Management

- Maintain Alberta Ballet’s Warehouse inventory and supplies.
- Ensure all warehouse maintenance schedules are executed including safety items, lighting replacement, regular cleaning, mechanical systems maintenance and trash removal.
- Complete monthly facility inspections, as determined by Alberta Ballet’s Health and Safety Policies. 
- Become a member of the Alberta Ballet Joint Health and Safety Committee, and take part in monthly facility inspections. 

4.     Leadership, Mentorship and Crew Supervision

- Provides education to Alberta Ballet Staff on Health and Safety - Policies and Procedures while on site for Alberta Ballet productions in performance venues or auxiliary locations.
- Lead, manage and monitor the performance of direct production reports; set objectives and provide feedback regularly through performance evaluations.
- Ensure that Alberta Ballet develops and delivers programming within the guidelines of the IATSE agreements and the Canadian Actors Equity Agreement.
- Schedule sufficient local crew to satisfy the needs of each production. Submit all crew calls to each IATSE Local as required by their offices.
- Recruitment and hiring for Alberta Ballet Regular Crew (ABRC) as governed by the IATSE Alberta Ballet White Contract.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Qualifications

- Excitement for Alberta Ballet’s strategic objectives; specifically, a deep belief of the importance of ballet and the arts and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. 
- Post-secondary education in Theatre Production and/or equivalent experience.
- Must have strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office365 and computer drafting in either Vectorworks or AutoCad. 3D capability is an asset.
- Must be fully versed in the operation of all theatrical equipment.
- Knowledge in operation of all theatrical departments. Specialized knowledge of scenic, rigging and props construction an asset.
- Sound team building skills, exceptional communication skills and a positive and open attitude towards feedback and growth.
- Project management experience with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Minimum of three (3) years of team leadership and supervisory experience.
- Knowledge and experience with Health and Safety initiatives and practices.
- Relevant safety training such as first aid, fork lift training, WHMIS are considered an asset.
- Valid Driver’s License is required.
- Successful candidates will be required to complete a police background/vulnerable sector check as a condition of employment, as well as provide proof of full vaccination for COVID-19.

Working Conditions / physical requirements

- Must be able to travel with the company primarily between September and May (including December).
- This is a year round, full time, permanent position and will require regular evening and weekend work during performance weeks, schedule dependent.
- Driver’s license and experience driving 5-ton trucks and asset.
- Primarily working at the warehouse when not on site for productions or events.

Additional Information

The position of Production Manager is a salaried, management position with days and hours of work to be determined by the Director of Artistic Operations and follow Alberta Labor Standards guidelines. The Production Manager position is subject to any and all Alberta Ballet company policies and procedures. All overtime must be discussed and receive prior written approval by the Director, Artistic Operations.

Salary: Starting at $70 000 per year
