Summary: Responsible for the sound and efficient management and maintenance of the physical plant, facilities and equipment of the Ottawa Little Theatre; for the health and safety of patrons, visitors, staff and volunteers; for planning and execution of all production elements for the OLT season of plays and its other activities; and for liaising with all rental groups regarding their technical requirements.
•keep the facility in the best physical condition possible within budget limitations.
•equip the facility in as up to date and complete a state as possible within the budget limitations.
•build a strong and effective team of volunteer and/or paid technicians, custodians, stage crew and stage managers who excel at meeting the needs of OLT’s productions and other activities and the needs of rental events
•expand the knowledge base and skills of volunteers assisting in the production/technical areas of the theatre, inspiring them to want to learn more
•effectively manage and administer all productions and events presented at OLT
•develop/implement a successful, results based, strategic plan to improve technical services and facilities at the OLT
•work with Volunteer Committee and Directors of Productions to strengthen and enhance the artistic quality of the technical aspects of OLT productions
•improve the rental services offered by OLT including rentals of sets, props, costumes and facilities
•create and maintain a safe working environment for all visitors, staff and volunteers
•function as the resident expert on sound and lighting equipment
•provide leadership on production requirements of special events including this year’s 100th Season Celebrations
•post-secondary degree, diploma or certificate (or equivalent combination of education and experience) in technical theatre, production management or a related field
•minimum 5 years experience in technical theatre
•minimum 3 years experience managing a facility
•minimum 3 years experience managing/supervising staff and/or volunteers
•financial - sound knowledge of management systems, financial planning, budgets and not-for-profit accounting
•knowledge of artistic and technical trends, key players in the community and ability to deal with them in a professional manner
•languages - excellent written and oral communication in English - working knowledge of French is an asset
•computer knowledge - excellent computer skills including facility with computerized lighting and sound boards, command of MS Office suites of software and of the internet
•controls - knowledge of Health and Safety regulations, best practices in the technical areas of theatre and Human Resource Management
