TO Live’s Production Department has an opportunity for an enthusiastic, resourceful team-player who thrives in a fast paced, hands-on, collaborative environment in the role of Manager, Theatre Systems & Special Projects.

Reporting to the Director of Production, the Manager, Theatre Systems & Special Projects is responsible for production infrastructure, systems, and equipment in all TO Live venues.

This is a yearly contract position, typically running from January to December, renewing annually by mutual agreement.

ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Continually assess and evaluate TO Live’s production infrastructure, systems, and equipment including input from all stakeholders, including but not limited to Production Managers, Stagehands and Department Heads, and report to senior production team.
• Provide feedback, analysis and recommendation on theatre systems and components on an ongoing basis.
• Implement systems and equipment replacement and upgrades using project management processes, principles, and frameworks.
• Working in conjunction with Production team; maintain and update documentation, including drawings, as required.
• Manage stagehands during project and maintenance work for effective work execution, system configuration, and knowledge dissemination.
• Facilitate timely and effective resolution of technical production impediments, obstacles, and challenges.
• Provide and maintain accurate and up-to-date records of project, equipment replacement and repair expenditures.
• Recommend, plan, and oversee training and education of Production department staff including stagehands, to ensure that new practices, techniques, and technologies are understood, and that mandated, department specific requirements are met.
• Internal technical resource for shows and events. Support “TO Live Presents” in venues outside of TO Live buildings as required.
• Ensure consistent theatre system and equipment preparedness, including addressing issues on a timeline of hours where required.
• Take on other duties as assigned from time to time.

Qualifications / Required Skills

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in technical and production management with extensive systems knowledge and production process familiarity, along with strong budgeting experience with financial accountability.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience supervising unionized stagehands.
• Experience with live entertainment production activities including dance, concerts, musicals, theatre, headliners, world music, business meetings, live streaming and recording, etc.
• Strong organization, planning, and leadership skills to coordinate conflicting deadlines and priorities.
• Team building, collaboration, and conflict resolution skills.
• Highly effective oral, written, and numerical communication skills.
• Effective working knowledge of project management processes, and of employment, labour, and occupational health and safety requirements.
• Proficient in Word, Excel, and technical drawing software most used in a live performance environment.
