CANDIDATES

Candidate name: Joshua C McIntosh Current position on the CITT/ICTS Board of Directors: Treasurer
Company: University of Alberta Work title: ADM Production and Operations - Fine Arts Province: Alberta Membership Category: Organizational
Why are you interested in a position on the CITT/ICTS Board of Directors?
Looking back, I find myself surprised that my first term on the Board of Directors has already ended. As a board we have been able to accomplish a great deal in this time but have really only just begun so many important and exciting initiatives. CITT/ICTS is in a precarious position, as many in the theatrical community are, amidst the challenges facing the world we live in. The post COVID operating norms and the ever changing political rhetoric coming out of the United States make for a wildly complex environment. There is still so much to do to help CITT/ICTS refocus its operation to better serve our members, broaden our impact across the country and deepen our relationship with partner organizations. Financially the organization is facing substantial difficulty, we are making improvements but lasting change will only come from sustained support and focus, I am committed to helping find the path forward.
I believe that CITT/ICTS is a critical part of the landscape of the Canadian Live Entertainment Community but as an organization, we have to grow and develop with our membership. My hope is that I can continue to help CITT/ICTS revive its operation and expand its impact if I am re-elected for another term on the Board of Directors.
Your skills, experience and interests that you believe would be of value to the CITT/ICTS Board of Directors:
I bring a variety of perspectives to the Board of Directors, which I see as founded in two distinct areas. My professional skills and experience come from long years of work across a large variety of positions, mediums, forms of production and progressive growth of responsibility across North America. Leadership, strategic planning and financial stability for large scale organizations with a focus on live entertainment is now a regular part of my everyday work. This on its own is of value to the CITT/ICTS Board of Directors but I feel that my professional relationships and activities are far more valuable.
In addition to serving on the Board of Directors for CITT/ICTS, I serve on the board of Directors for the Citadel Theatre in Edmonton. I also serve on the Technology Commission for OISTAT as the Vice-Chair for the Americas. I have been an active member of USITT since the late 90’s, I have been a proud member of IATSE for nearly 25 years and I have sat on both sides of the negotiating table. As CITT/ICTS works to find a path forward in the next few years; an understanding of the variety of needs across the industry and connections into how other organizations are adapting will be paramount. Building and growing relationships across industries and borders will only make CITT/ICTS stronger and be more prepared to support its members.

I have been a member of the National Board now for 4 years and have been the Secretary for 3 of those years. I am dedicated to the national support of CITT/ICTS members, to the continued growth of the membership and to the overall importance of this organization. I feel I have a unique understanding of the industry having been a professional PM and Lighting Designer for many years and now as the Director of a production training program at the National Theatre School of Canada. Why are you interested in a position on the CITT/ICTS Board of Directors?
I am interested in holding a position on the Board of Directors to bring a voice from the Prairie Section as there is not much representation outside of the retreat. Saskatchewan and Manitoba have many Technicians that I feel don’t have a big say at the national level.
