The School of Creative and Performing Arts, Division of Drama in the Faculty of Arts is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Manager, Academic Production.
Reporting to the Director, School of Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA), this position is responsible for coordinating and supervising all academic technical and production operations of the division of Drama. During production weeks, there is a need for significant work outside of regular working hours.
This position requires discretionary and often creative decision making which impacts people, programs, services and divisional operations. The position requires strong supervisory skills, independent judgment, the ability to establish priorities based on artistic demands, and the ability to deal creatively with students, staff, and faculty in upholding such priorities. The Manager of Academic Production makes the technical production decisions necessary to ensure the successful mounting of divisional productions. He/she supervises all other members of the technical support staff and is responsible for maintaining effective communications between the staff and the faculty, particularly faculty who are directors and designers. The Manager of Academic Production demonstrates leadership in achieving creative goals and functions effectively as a member of a production management team. It is the Manager of Academic Production's responsibility to stay abreast of technical standards in the industry and implement all technical decisions arrived at by the production team.
Qualifications / Requirements:
BFA/MFA in Technical Theatre Production or an equivalent combination of education and experience
A minimum of two years experience in technical theatre management and/or direction (Educational theatre experience an asset)
Demonstrated working knowledge of all aspects of technical theatre
A minimum of five to eight years experience in at least four of the following production areas: lighting, sound, stage management, properties construction, scenery construction, costume construction, theatre rigging & stage carpentry, construction & computer drafting, production design
