The Head of Stage Management is responsible for controlling activity in the project areas used for events within the Francis Winspear Centre for Music.
•Ensure that all project-related activity is facilitated and supervised by the department, and that a safe environment is maintained for staff, patrons, and performers
•Establish event schedules for the Stage Management Department, including labour requirements, necessary equipment and budgets
•Provide cost estimates for stage production labour and equipment
•Ensure that all stage production equipment, including rigging and lift systems, is well maintained and in good working order; bring any necessary repairs or problems to the attention of the General Manager
•Coordinate the purchase, installation and maintenance of event-related stage production equipment
•Adhere to the Collective Agreement negotiated between IATSE and the facility for Stage Management personnel
•Adhere to, implement and enforce the facility’s Health and Safety Policies and Procedures guidelines; inform the General Manager of any condition observed to be unsafe
•Inform patrons and performers of emergency situations and complete incident reports as needed
•Schedule contractors for maintenance and inspection of stage production equipment
•Arrange for the supply of labour and equipment from outside sources as required, in consultation with client representatives
The Head of Stage Management works closely in conjunction with the Lighting and Audio departments.
Each area has a head of department and department assistants that provide complete performance / event support to our client roster. In addition to in-house staff, the FWCM accesses casual technical labour from IATSE Local 210.
•Prepare annual budget requirements for operating and capital expenses
•Manage supplier accounts
•Complete client settlement reports
•Prepare bi-weekly accounting summary of reporting staff’s time recording
•Complete purchase orders
Interaction with Patrons and Public:
The Head of Stage Management represents the facility’s project areas to the public and as such is a primary contact for clients using the Winspear Centre.
The Head of Stage Management will:
•Provide technical information to confirmed and potential clients
•Attend client meetings and distribute information to pertinent departments and client representatives
•Maintain professional relationships with suppliers, clients and related organizations
The successful candidate must demonstrate a level of physical fitness commensurate with the demands of the position, as some heavy lifting is involved.
Working Conditions and Environment:
A flexible working schedule is mandatory as the Head of Stage Management will be expected to accommodate event requirements where their presence is required during the day, weekend and/or evening hours.
The Head of Stage Management position falls under the jurisdiction of the IATSE local 210 and the Collective Agreement negotiated between the Union and the Francis Winspear Centre for Music.
The Head of Stage Management will have:
•Previous Head of Stage Management or related experience in an entertainment industry environment
•Current Fall Protection, First Aid, and CPR certifications
•Knowledge of the music industry with an understanding of orchestral requirements
•Experience with industry riders and touring requirements
•Intermediate or better knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of software, with proficiency in Excel a strong asset
•Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to manage a team
•An eye for detail and an emphasis on safety and organization
•An understanding of financial reporting and control methods
•The ability to manage multiple events simultaneously
•Strong written and verbal communication skills
•Familiarity working with union (IATSE) crews
•The ability to develop and maintain business relationships with clients and suppliers
•The ability to work in a flexible and creative environment, with firm deadlines and evolving requirements
Salary: $82,397 annual salary, as per Collective Agreement with IATSE Local 210
