The Cultch is looking for a Head Digital Audio for a three-month contract at the York Theatre, from November 12, 2015 to January 25, 2016.
The work will consist of set-up, mixing, and load out of three musical theatre style shows. The York Theatre has a Digico SD9 console, and proficient knowledge of Digico operation and programming is essential. Experience with musical theatre, and the ability to follow scripts and visual cues are also critical. Duties will include but are not limited to:
-Set up including monitors and appropriate stage inputs (mics/DI’s/etc.)
-Work with artistic and tech teams including cast,musicians, directors, designers, through tech rehearsals and performances.
-Maintain storage areas, audio gear and common theatre spaces,
-Comply with BC safe working practice and methodology; instruction of other employees in proper work procedures and the use of safety equipment while working at height, either on ladders, or in personnel lifts.
-Experience with the operation of Digico SD9 Console
-Proven experience mixing live musicals with multiple cast members and a live orchestra
-Experience with mixing both wireless lav and hand held microphones
-Experience reading audio plots and input paperwork
-Experience with editing for show sound playback when required including Q-Lab
-The ability to work to schedule and meet deadlines, and stay calm under pressure
-Good communication skills and a love of theatre
-Physically fit in order to do multiple trips up and down stairs, ladders and comfortable working at heights
-IATSE 118 membership – full, permittee or willingness to join the permittee roster
- be willing to act as crew chief for certain load ins, load outs and/or restore shifts, ensuring safe working practices are being upheld, and that breaks and schedules remain on track
-basic knowledge of other disciplines including lighting, stage carpentry, and singly and double purchase fly systems
- willingness to assist in other departments when scheduling allows.
-A post-secondary diploma in production and/or a minimum 3 years professional experience in technical theatre preferred
-Level 1 Occupational First Aid certificate is an asset
The Head Digital Audio reports to The Cultch Technical Director and Production Manager.
This is a three month contract position based on a 32 hour work week time bank commencing November 12, 2015 to January 25, 2016 with an option to renew, pending bookings in the theatre. Most work hours will take place in the late afternoon and evenings including weekends. Days off are based on the performance schedule. This is a Union position governed by the terms and conditions of the Technical Collective Agreement between Vancouver East Cultural Centre and IATSE Local 118.
Salary: $22.18 per hour plus benefits less Union dues
