Job Description / Duties

The TD Assistant Technical Director will work closely with the Technical Lead to ensure shows, events, and residencies in Chrysalis are completed successfully, with a high degree of support and partner satisfaction. The role is intended to support the Technical Lead in the day to day operations and maintenance of the space, as well as being the technical lead responsible for some of the projects supported by Chrysalis. The role is intended to provide the successful applicant with support and mentorship as an experienced technician looking to move into more leadership roles or as a junior leader looking for more experience and a team to hone their leadership skills with.

As this role is in a teaching institution, there will be some expectation of leadership and mentoring of students from The Creative School as they make use of this facility. This is a term OPSEU 596 position and will operate under the active CBA.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with the Technical Lead to create a learning program and schedule for their time at Chrysalis
- Assist the Technical Lead with research into capital upgrades and make suggestions for strategic purchases as well as taking a leadership role in the implementation of some of these projects - In conjunction with the Technical Lead, oversee more junior TD Apprentices, student work study positions, as well as any other temporary employees and students on practicum or volunteer calls using the facilities
- Help ensure the safe installation, operation and strike of all performances and events happening in the space and be an active participant and leader in the Health & Safety Program
- Oversee and lead teams on some projects happening in the venue with minimal support from the Technical Lead
- Participate in ongoing upgrades and maintenance of the facilities and equipment
- Help to write and implement operational policies and procedures for the space and the team

Qualifications / Required Skills

- Post-secondary diploma or degree in theatrical or entertainment production, design or leadership or equivalent experience
- 3+ years experience in live events or entertainment production.
