Due to the large number of volunteer performers involved in populating the world of the Passion Play, the ‘Assistant Director – Crowds’ is hired to work specifically with the body of performers that make us the ensemble and are imperative to many scenes. The role of the Crowd Director is to work as a liaison between the Directors and the large group of performers of the play to execute the vision of the Director/s for the play. Experience working with large groups (i.e. Greek theatre, opera, etc.), incorporating movement and physical theatre into storytelling is essential.
Experience that would prove an asset to the position include:
- a strong understanding of the ensemble aspects of theatre;
- working with a volunteer or community theatre organization;
- working with an outdoor theatre company and/or events;
- leading and collaborating on projects with large groups;
- collaborating on new works.

Going into its 24th Season, The Canadian Badlands Passion Play is one Canada’s largest outdoor theatrical events. The company is a unique combination of primarily volunteer performers with professional mentors and crew. The company mandate is to annually depict the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ in dramatic form. It is performed on Canada’s largest outdoor stage, built into the hills of the Drumheller badlands in front of a 2700 seat outdoor amphitheatre.
