Job Description / Duties

The Administrative Officer is responsible for the efficient management of human, financial, and physical resources of the Theatre Department. S/he will prepare the annual budget, and manage the day-to-day finances, as well as manage cost recoveries for Theatre and Costume Studies. S/he will establish rental and salary rates to ensure optimum rental revenues are realized. The incumbent will initiate and manage the donation system for Theatre patrons, and administer bequests and donations. The Administrative Offer will manage human resources issues for the Department. S/he will supervise a full time support staff position, as well as casual staff. This position is responsible to resolve employee relations issues and to conduct disciplinary action where necessary. The incumbent will advise on various collective agreements (NSGEU, DFA, CUPE), and will manage processes such as TA appointments, and Appointments, Promotion &Tenure. The Administrative Officer will coordinate various aspects of DalTheatre productions such as budget considerations, negotiate contracts for visiting directors and musicians, and manage advertising and promotional materials. This position is also responsible for developing and maintaining positive public relations with amateur and professional theatre groups, and the general public. The incumbent will manage space and facilities for the Theatre Department, which include rental agreements for specialized equipment. The Administrative Officer will assist the Chair with academic administration such as the academic timetable and annual calendar, as well as managing functions relating to Summer School classes. This position reports to the Chair.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Undergraduate degree in an area such as Business or Arts Administration, plus approximately five years’ related work experience. Previous financial and personnel management experience is required. Excellent communication (written and verbal), problem solving, and organizational skills are required. Experience or knowledge of Theatre or Performing Arts is a definite asset. Knowledge of commonly used office software is required.

Additional Information

Salary: $43,726 - $59,158 per annum
