This position will start in Toronto for the final week of the run at Factory Theatre at the end of February 2012. There will be one week in January 2012 (Jan. 17-23) where the candidate will work with the Lighting Designer on the install of the design, the focus and cueing of the production prior to starting at the end of that run.
For the Canadian dates of the tour after Toronto (Ottawa and Montreal), the Lighting Designer will adapt the design for each venue and be in each city for the install period. The LX operator will learn the design and lead the focus and cueing sessions, and operate the lighting console for the shows for each production run.
-Five years experience working in lighting for live theatre productions;
-The ability to lead lighting crews (both Union and non-Union) in focus, notes calls, and for the strike;
-The ability to translate the Lighting Designer's design and concept without changing its intent;
-Familiarity, speed, and good working knowledge of programming various types of lighting consoles (primarily Strand 500 Series, ETC Express & ION);
-Ability to trouble shoot issues that arise;
-Great attention to detail;
-Working as a team member touring with an intimate touring company;
-Strong knowledge of how lights work;
-Ability to effectively manage time and prioritize (particularly during focus when crew/building/equipment difficulties arise);
-Valid passport and ability to travel internationally.
Touring experience and previous design experience will be considered assets. This position requires the LX operator to watch every performance while running the lighting console for the show. Button pushers need not apply. There will be some minor non-lighting related duties in addition to the lighting requirements; willingness to assist the rest of the team is essential.
Following the Canadian dates of the tour, International touring is anticipated. The LX operator will be responsible for all lighting related duties, as the Lighting Designer will not be touring overseas.
