We are looking for a skilled Technical Supervisor to join our crew to provide professional oversight of all technical operations including lighting, sound, video, digital and stage rigging services.
Oversee and assume the supervision of theatre technical employees during performances, maintenance, and rehearsals.
Lead, supervise, train, schedule and plan the work of the technical staff.
Consult, advise and collaborate with performing arts groups, artists and performers regarding lighting, stage rigging, scenery, visual and sound requirements for their productions.
Prepare and authorize the purchase of technical supplies and provide advice regarding technical requirements, changes and improvements for the theatre.
Prepare reports and cost estimates of equipment.
Prepare and maintain budgets within definitive guidelines.
Develop and improve the technical services offered.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with a variety of customers/clients and staff.
Excellent communication skills.
The ability to be creative and resourceful in problem solving when faced with production issues.
The ability to work independently and make judgement calls, as appropriate.
Thorough knowledge of the latest technologies within performing and/or entertainment arts.
The ability to work courteously with members of performing arts groups, artists, performers, suppliers and the public in planning and coordinating stage and production services and present a professional image of the Theatre at all times.
A thorough knowledge of the practices, methods, techniques, materials, and equipment used in the operation of lighting, stage rigging, scenery, sound and facilities in a moderately large theatre.
Considerable knowledge of safety rules and regulations related to the work performed.
Considerable knowledge of the technical stage requirements for a wide variety of productions, shows and presentations.
The ability to oversee operations; maintain equipment and facilities; and prepare budgets, reports and cost estimates.
All Commission employees should be prepared to work at any Commission location. All candidates are required to submit a Police Information Check as a requirement of the position prior to any appointment. Clearance requires the absence of any criminal charges or convictions related to this position.
DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
The ideal candidate will have a Technical Theatre Post-Secondary Certificate or equivalent combined with a minimum of 5 years technical theatre experience; Supervisory experience within a Theatre/Entertainment environment; Strong computer skills and comfort with a variety of software programs; or an equivalent combination of training and experience; Experience working with community arts groups would be an asset.
REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND REGISTRATIONS:
A valid Class 5 BC driver’s license and access to a vehicle for business use. OFA Level 1 First Aid. LPEC or LE/FE certification or equivalent.
Hours: This is a regular full-time position averaging 37.5 hours per week that involves shift work with irregular hours including days, evenings and weekends. This position works within strict deadlines and is production focused.
Salary: $74,997 - $83,304
