Job Description / Duties

Summary Statement:
The Royal Winnipeg Ballet is seeking a candidate to fill a seasonal contract position as our Head of Properties. As the Head of Properties you are responsible to oversee and coordinate all matters related to the stage properties portion of all RWB productions. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: building, buying, creating and maintaining props inventory for existing & new productions, running union and non-union crews for load in, set up, show call, strike and load out of shows, maintaining all dance flooring, and keeping up to date and accurate paperwork records of show notes, tracks and inventories.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee and manage union and non-union crews both in the theatre on in the shop for all types of work calls.
Inform the Head Carpenter and Technical Director of all crew needs both in the theatre and in the shop.
Inform the Technical Director of all material and time needs in order to maintain all show properties in show condition and perform all maintenance required to keep props in show condition.
In coordination with specialty props builders, source, buy and create all properties required for new productions.
Ensure all pertinent company policies and agreements are understood and implemented.
Create and maintain complete and accurate show records including show notes, recipes, consumable sources, props plots and show information.
In the theatre lead props crews in the install and running of the dance floors and properties for each production.
Attend and participate in such meetings that will promote sound communication, liaison and decision making with Artistic and Technical staff. These shall include: production meetings, creations meetings and event planning meetings.
Complete time sheets in a timely manner for delivery to the Head Carpenter.
Attend all shop, truck, show and meeting calls as scheduled.
Review all technical specifications for each venue and inform the Head Carpenter of any special requirements or need for changes to show routine.
Maintain portable dance barre in show condition.

Working Conditions:
Extensive travel is required for this position
Work irregular hours and weekend shifts as required
Ability to lift and carry heavy loads and stand for extended periods
Work at heights as required

This position requires you to work in a proactive manner with shifting deadlines and priorities

Qualifications / Required Skills

Education and Qualifications:
College or university degree or diploma in Theatre Production or equivalent experience.
Previous properties experience is required.
Experience with a dance company is an asset.
As a condition of employment with the RWB, Criminal Background Check and Child Abuse Registry Check must be obtained as a condition of employment at the employees’ expense.
The ability to organize and communicate information clearly, both verbally and in writing.
Works in a detailed manner, be resourceful and flexible and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Demonstrate strong writing, mathematical and analytical skills
Willingness to work with and lead a diverse team of heads of department, and local crew.
The ability to read technical drawings.
Experience with wood working tools and a theatrical shop environment.
IT literate including experience with Microsoft Office.
Natural Resources Canada Pyrotechnician License is desirable.
Person lift ticket is desirable
Clean driving record desirable.
