Job Description / Duties

Reporting to the Technical Director and working in cooperation with the Artistic Director, you will be required to:

- Manage all aspects of staging and set operations during shows;
- Supervise the set crew;
- Carry out staging and set operations as well as maintenance activities;
- Supervise backstage area and equipment;
- Manage the crew during the setup, operation and tear-down of technical and artistic facilities (serve as crew chief);
- Maintain the integrity of artistic concepts.


- Manage and supervise all staging and set operations;
- Offer technical assistance during performances and rehearsals;
- Ensure safety and security with respect to staging and sets;
- Ensure that swing technicians and technical staff (Cirque and temporary employees) adhere to standards and regulations pertaining to staging and set safety and comply with safe working methods;
- Serve as crew chief during the setup, operation and tear-down of technical and artistic facilities;
- Supervise and train the set crew (swing technicians);
- Inspect and maintain all staging and sets and keep records of inspections and modifications;
- Update staging and sets archives, inventory, technical documentation and customs documentation;
- Conduct research and order and/or purchase new and/or replacement equipment;
- Coordinate activities and supervise personnel during the setup and tear-down of staging and sets;
- Assist with setup and tear-down;
- Assist the Technical Show Manager in hiring new swing technicians, managing departmental budgets and capital expense projections;
- At International Headquarters (IHQ), assist with any technical issues;
- Attend departmental meetings;
- Supervise the set crew (swing technicians);
- Follow and support the equipment and inventory management procedures and requirements as required by Cirque du Soleil;
- Utilize the tools and procedures provided by IHQ to maintain inventory and equipment data;
- Follow the requirements detailed by the Customs and Logistics departments for the transport of material with touring productions;
- Perform any other task requested by the Technical Show Manager.

Qualifications / Required Skills

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

- College diploma (or equivalent) in live entertainment or theatre production (or equivalent work experience);
- Minimum of six to eight years' relevant experience;
- Good general understanding of all technical aspects of a show;
- Personnel management experience;
- Flexible, autonomous and team-spirited;
- Good communication skills;
- Ability to handle contingencies and work well under pressure;
- Knowledge of both Microsoft applications for Windows and Autocad;
- Fluency in spoken and written English is essential, fluency in French is an asset;
- Available to tour full time and to work in foreign countries.
