Under the general supervision of the Supervisor Setup and AV Services and Head AV Technician, the AV Technician is responsible for: setup and operation of a wide range of audio visual equipment throughout Hart House for internal and external client events. Prepares equipment and setup according to event plan, diagram and daily orders. Evaluates conditions of equipment and performs general maintenance or logging for Head AV Technician. May be hired specifically to operate for duration of specific events. Provides excellent personal customer service and care.
Delivery and setup of Equipment (75%)
Organize and follow daily Setup and AV orders.
Deliver, setup, test equipment and systems. Operate when necessary.
Acts as contact person for all clients and colleagues to provide back-up emergency service as required per event.
Perform other related duties pertaining to a specific event as assigned by supervisor or as needed by the client.
Provides pickup and strike of all equipment on a nightly basis.
Maintainance and Servicing (15%)
Test, maintain and repair equipment for daily use.
Prepares equipment by self, by ensuring all gear and accessories are available, inspected and in working order prior to delivery.
Ensures all outgoing equipment is returned, inspected, and properly put away at the end of each working day.
Refers major repairs to the Head AV Technician.
Provides written report to Head AV Technician of events operated for.
Provides feedback and follow up on daily working conditions.
Provides specific feedback to Head AV Technician on any job or equipment related issues which could affect client billing.
High school graduate (Current University students welcome)
Two (2) or equivalent work experience in the various live audio-visual fields including experience with face to face client relations. Lighting and staging experience an asset. Repair and maintenance experience an asset.
Strong technical skills with AV and equipment expertise. Strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills.
Strong commitment to high-quality service. Strong analytical and trouble-shooting ability. Manual dexterity is required to service and operate equipment, stamina required to handle, deliver and setup equipment multiple times a day. Ability to work independently and exercise good judgement. Must be puctual, reliable and respectful.
Materials & Equipment Used:
Audio equipment including microphones, mixers, playback devices, speakers, cables, effects units, amplifiers.
Video equipment including projectors, screens, computers, cables, routers, splitters, playback units, monitors.
Lighting equipment including dimmers, controllers, varied lighting fixtures, stands, cables.
Miscellaneous equipment including telecommunications units, lecterns, decorative lighting.
Daily lifting, carrying, moving equipment from room to room. Bending over to setup and lay cables, rarely sitting unless operating an event where one must stay still and quiet for multiple straight hours.
Working Environment/Work Hazards:
Work is typically performed inside safe public access spaces. Some exterior work in decent weather. Limited exposure to safe but high volume levels
Hours of Work:
Casual part time hours. Evenings and weekends are required.
This is a unionized contract, casual position.
Salary: $14/hr (regular), $18/hr (operating)
