Rebuilding the Teatro San Cassiano
|
The world's first purpose-built public opera house was the Teatro San Cassiano in Venice in 1637, which was demolished in 1811 on Napoleon's orders. I'm associated with the team that is planning to rebuild the theatre exactly as it was - with a view to reproducing the acoustic environment of this 430 seat opera house. From my perspective, the most important part of the project is in rediscovering the full suite of stage machinery. After attending this presentation, attendees will have a greater understanding of the genius of those artisans and machinists of 400 years ago. |
