Job Description
Ballet Jörgen is Canada’s most active touring dance company, performing across Canada and into the United States each season. The Stage Manager will work closely with the Company’s other technical crew as well as the dancers and artistic staff. The Stage Manager will call all lighting, sound, fly and other cues during rehearsals and performances and will be diligent in their preparations including attend studio rehearsals and creating calling scripts and running cue sheets. The Stage Manager will tour with the Company, so a desire to travel to small communities from coast to coast across all ten Canadian provinces and into the United States is a must, as is a valid drivers license.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Attending rehearsals and creating calling scripts and running cue sheets and paperwork for all performances and events;
• Compiling and maintaining blocking and cues;
• Preparing paperwork and disseminating to running crew for all performances and events;
• Assisting with all performance/event load ins and load outs and from the Ballet Jörgen warehouse and studio space as necessary;
• Calling lighting, sound, fly and other cues during rehearsals and performances;
• Coordinating the movement of props and set pieces with dancers and crew both in studio and onstage;
• Assisting with large prop assembly and prop pre-sets as needed in studio & spacing rehearsals in each venue for each production;
• Spiking all specials and set pieces in each theatre, consulting with Lighting Director as necessary;
• Supervising the house crew in each venue - both professional and volunteers - for rehearsal and performance;
• Setting up the video camera for archival recording of all performances;
• Ensuring the backstage area is clean and safe with assistance from the Technical Director;
• Preparing post-show reports after each performance/event;
• Printing paperwork for production truck and dancer van books (itinerary, rooming list & van allocations, etc) as necessary;
• Prop management, storage and minor prop repairs;
• Sharing driving responsibilities of production vehicles.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Requirements
• Completion of an accredited post-secondary program in technical theatre specializing in Stage Management or the equivalent combination (5 years or more) of stage management experience and education;
• Must have theatrical and/or dance stage management experience;
• A valid drivers license is a must. Duties will include driving production vehicles;
• Valid passport;
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Working knowledge of current safety standards;
• Must be self-motivated and possess good organizational and time management skills;
• Punctual, organized and able to perform tasks independently;
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal;
• Good relationship building skills;
• Must be able to handle stressful situations and deadline pressure while ensuring accuracy;
• Skilled in major computer applications related to work including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook;
• Work will include evenings and weekends;
• French an asset;
• Touring experience would be an asset.

Ballet Jörgen’s 2022-2023 season will include tours of Anne of Green Gables – The Ballet, The Nutcracker, Cinderella and a mixed repertoire “Small Halls” performance. Touring will take place across Canada and into the United States.
