Shakespeare In The Park, is looking for technicians’ and stage management to help us produce our 24st season of summer repertory theatre.
Employment for most positions will run mid May till end the of August and will include the building / rehearsal process of two classic Shakespearean plays in a modern context, as well as the running of the shows at our set on Prince’s Island Park.
Assistant Stage Management: Two positions available. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to work with an Equity Stage Manager and experienced Director as well as a partial equity cast in a professional setting. Expectations include knowledge and practical application of the rehearsal process: blocking, props and wardrobe tracking, both giving and receiving notes with technical departments and good communication skills. As well as experience in the running of a show: Pre-set checks, cueing, and both props and wardrobe tracking and placement.
Costume Head: One position available. Expectations include sewing and cutting skills, purchasing and alterations of pre-built costumes, fitting of costumes, and strong leadership abilities. You will be crew during the run of both shows in a wardrobe role. Also you will be responsible for maintenance and repairs of all costumes during the run of both shows.
Stitcher: One position available. Expectations include sewing and cutting skills. Your roll will be for the build process of both of our shows. You will be hired to assist the Costume Head with day to day needs. Qualifications include ability to work on your own building and altering any items that are assigned to you by the costume head. You may also be needed to assist in the props department with any stitching needs they may have. This position is from End of May until mid July.
Props Head: One position available. Expectations include ability to find creative solutions to problems, good sourcing abilities, wood working skills, paper prop experience, painting skills an asset, strong leadership abilities, and good tracking skills. You will be crew during the running of both shows. Also you will be responsible for the maintenance and repairs of all props during the running of the show. Knowledge of proper weapons maintenance an asset
Carpenter: One position available. Expectations as carpenter include strong basic carpentry skills; the ability to learn new things; ability to read designers drafting’s and create working drawings from them, ability to find creative solutions to problems. You will also be expected to complete your work in a timely manner and assist with maintenance on our set during load in. This position in from late May until mid July.
Assets for all positions are: strong time management and communication skills; ability to produce good clean paperwork; a driver license and knowledge of driving large vehicles; WHMIS issued through MRU; First Aid certification; and common sense. All positions are paid by the week.
