Tech Direction Statement:
This year's "Mission Impossible" Award goes to an individual who defied the odds, who stared down technical nightmares and emerged victorious. Their ingenuity transformed what seemed impossible into a breathtaking reality...
And the winner is... Carlos Varela with The Coal Mine for his incredible work on CASE FOR THE EXISTENCE OF GOD! Carlos took on the challenge of building a glass sand wall that essentially worked like a giant Etch-A-Sketch. This kind of custom-built scenic element, using unconventional materials, requires significant problem-solving and an unwavering commitment to the artistic vision, Varela’s dedication to overcoming technical challenges truly embodies the spirit of this award.
Notably, Coal Mine Theatre states this was a hugely collaborative effort with a number of people including Anthony Allan and Lilian Adom!
Thank you and congratulations to Carlos Varela and the technical team at Coal Mine Theatre!
A huge thank you to everyone else who entered! Your innovative spirit and incredible talent made this year's competition truly remarkable. Stay tuned for the next award season!
