Job Description / Duties

The Theatre Technician will have the knowledge and experience necessary to provide the professional operation, and or oversight of all technical operations, lighting, sound, communications equipment, stage facilities, and maintenance and safeguarding of technical assets.

Responsibilities Include:
-Determining the necessary technical supports such as lighting, sound, staging, and special needs necessary for events and performances presented at the facility in advance of production dates.
-Design, set up, maintain, and operate lighting and sound systems for theatre, dance, music, and other productions and projects; assists guest designers and the arts with technical matters.
-Advising on the technical specifications, costs, and usage of technical equipment required for the individual show, and supervising the implementations of approved technical designs.
-Supervising and assisting with set and stage construction and stage management.
-Assistance in recruiting, training, and assignment of volunteer or paid technical staff for individual shows.
-Orientation of facility renters and visiting productions to safety, technical characteristics, and other areas of facility operations; facilitating the use of the technical facilities by the resident company, and others engaged by or renting the facility.
-Monitoring the condition of equipment including light, sound, and rigging equipment; arranging for the repair and replacement within budgetary constraints; performing preventive maintenance on equipment.
-Assisting with the preparation and control of production budgets; maintaining inventory and orders specialized supplies.
-Making recommendations regarding capital purchases of technical equipment.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Graduation from a recognized technical theatre school or comparable experience
LPEC certification or comparable (or better)
Experience with all types of lighting (conventional, led, intelligent)
Experience with analog and digital sound equipment
PLASA or ETCP rigging certification encouraged
First Aid certification encouraged
Willingness to work collaboratively with others of varying levels of experience
Must be able to pass a Criminal Record Check

Additional Information

The duties and tasks associated with the position require flexible scheduling including shifts during the day and evening. The work week is developed in consultation with the Management team, and is authorized two weeks in advance on an ongoing basis, determined by the scheduled events and activities in the Theatre, and the Centre for that period.

Maintenance and upkeep of technical and performance equipment shall be done on a regular basis.

Salary: $20.81/hr as per collective agreement
