Job Description / Duties

York University's Faculty of Fine Arts is one of North America's premier educational and research institutions for the visual, performing and digital arts. The largest, most comprehensive program of our kind in Canada and the only fine arts faculty in the province of Ontario, we bring together more than 3,450 undergraduate and graduate students and 260 full-time and part-time faculty working at the leading edge of fine arts practice and scholarship.
The Faculty of Fine Arts offers in-depth academic studies (history, theory, criticism) and intensive, hands-on professional training in all the fine arts: dance, design, digital media, film, music, theatre and visual arts/art history. Degree programs include the BA, BFA, BDes, MA, MFA, MDes and PhD, plus graduate diplomas and joint MA/MBA and MFA/MBA programs with York’s Graduate Program in Arts and Media Administration.

In this excellent temporary part time opportunity, the Theatre Facilities Assistant provides general facilities support to the faculty and students in the Theatre production. This includes supporting the safe operation of Theatre facilities, coordinating and / or completing preventative maintenance activities; communicating with others to obtain information on safety protocols and placing orders

Qualifications / Required Skills

Education:
High School Diploma

Experience:
2 years related experience. Experience working in a teaching environment would be considered an asset. Having participated in a trade apprenticeship program would be considered an asset. Having worked in a technical capacity in a theatre production environment would also be considered an asset.

Skills:
Demonstrated skills including:
Ability to work independently and set priorities. Ability to inspect and clean shop equipment. Ability to accurately interpret safety procedures and recognize infractions.
Effective interpersonal skills, including flexibility, tact and courtesy.
Ability to exercise good judgment and initiative.
Ability to deal calmly, courteously and effectively with people. Good written communication skills.
Ability to work accurately and effectively under pressure.
Demonstrated computer skills including:
Email (lotus notes). Basic Spreadsheets (MS Excel).
