Job Description / Duties

POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Theatre Manager, the Theatre Technician will perform skilled technical duties with a wide range of theatrical equipment in a modern theatre. Duties will include the areas of lighting, sound, video and general live event set-up, operation and administration, within the space of a multi-tenant, multi-use arts facility and event venue.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide support for all technical aspects of the Studio Theatre and auxiliary support spaces, which includes activities inside and around the building site and park spaces.
• Provide production support in a proactive, creative and client-oriented manner for cSPACE events, performances and activities, and for cSPACE rental groups.
• Work with clients to support the successful delivery of their performance, presentation or event.
• Provide organizational and planning support in relation to execution of technical activities during events and productions.
• Assist in the safe operation and maintenance of theatre sound, lighting, projection, and related equipment and systems.
• Perform other related duties as required and as able.

The Studio Theatre Technician will demonstrate proficiency in performing the assigned functions and skilled technical duties with only occasional instruction or assistance from the Theatre Manager.

General Duties
• Reconfigure of Studio Theatre and Auxiliary Support Spaces. o Store/Deploy retractable seating rake.
o Store/Deploy retractable partition walls.
o Store/Deploy temporary tables and chairs.
o Store/Deploy temporary stage risers.
o Store/Deploy louvres, curtains, shades, and pipe & drape.
• Configure and use architectural control system(s) (Crestron, Extron, Terisa DSP) to accurately and precisely route lighting control, audio and video to suit cSPACE’s clients’ specific needs.
• Work closely with the Events Team to ensure a successful client experience.
• Complete post-event reports outlining wins and concerns.
• Maintain frequent and effective communication with the Events Team and TheatreManager as needed for urgent matters.
• Maintains working order of all relevant technical equipment, machines, furniture, fixtures, and fittings.
• Ensure all equipment is stored safely and securely, and is accessible to other cSPACE staff.
• Maintain an inventory of all equipment and materials held, used and/or rented out.
• In conjunction with the Manager and cSPACE staff, ensure both internal and external users are fully briefed on the safe use of the performance, meeting and event spaces.
• Provide technical assistance to internal and external users.
• Support and oversee non-cSPACE technicians and users of the performance, meeting and event spaces and ensure all equipment is handled with care.

Sound Duties
• Determine and operate appropriate equipment required for a specific client’s needs. o Wireless microphone(s)
o Digital Mixer/Console
o Digital Snake/Stage Box o Podium with mic
• Route Audio from input sources to output buses via Tesira DSP Matrix.
• Run and patch cables for a multitude of different inputs and outputs as required.
• Manage gain staging/structure to minimize noise floor.
• Manage EQ/Filters and Dynamics for different types of signals at various events including, but not limited to Theatre (Musical and Spoken), Concerts, Dance,Presentations, etc.
• Lift and place speakers for FOH and Stage Monitors.
• Contribute to the maintenance of all sound equipment.

Lighting Duties
• Configure and operate lighting grid lighting console.
• Hang and Focus lights in the lighting grid using an Aerial Work Platform.
• Install lighting accessories within existing lighting fixtures.
• Contribute to the lighting design, color scheme, focus, etc. as required by cSPACE client.
• Run cables in lighting grid for power and patch to fixtures as required. Configure new fixtures in the lighting console.
• Contribute to the maintenance of all lighting fixtures.Projection Duties
• Run and patch video cables from sources to Studio Theatre Infrastructure.
• Route video (and audio) via Extron video switching matrix.
• Play DCP videos from projector IMS Server.
• Move and Focus Lens based on cSPACE client requirements.
• Manage audio output routes from video sources to match the abilities of the room and the availability of multi-track audio (ST, 5.1, 7.1, etc.).
• Contribute to the maintenance of the video display system.Broadcast Duties
• Configure and operate video input switcher for multiple video camera inputs.
• Move and Focus Cameras to provide accurate representation of the event.
• Record and/or livestream video from multiple camera angles.
• Monitor audio to ensure accuracy and clarity for recording and/or livestream.
• Contribute to the maintenance of the video broadcast system.

Health & Safety
• Understand and follow all cSPACE Health and Safety policies and procedures.
• Help to ensure client and staff compliance with cSPACE Health and Safety policies and procedures.
• Contribute to and, where required, lead safety reviews of daily work duties.
• Conduct risk assessments as required when working in cSPACE Event spaces.
• Attend training as required for specific use and safety procedures for theatre and event equipment.
• Supervise and educate all users of the Studio Theatre and event spaces on the safe use of the area and equipment.
• Participate in safety checks of all technical equipment, machines, furniture, fixtures and fittings.

Qualifications / Required Skills

QUALIFICATIONS
• Strong, proven experience in audio, video, broadcast, lighting and A/V set-up and operation.
• Strong, proven experience working in a broad range of live performance, conference, and event activities.
• Excellent working knowledge of specific event operating and design programs, including, but not limited to: Qlab, MultiPlay, VectorWorks, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, GSuite,etc.
• Up to date knowledge of lighting systems, control apparatus, equipment and its maintenance.
• Up to date knowledge of digital audio and audio-visual equipment and its use in relation to live, recorded and play-back techniques.
• An enthusiasm for working within a team environment, and with advising a wide range of clients in technical theatre and event production.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, able to communicate clearly and consistently with all theatre and event space users, especially non-technical users.
• Highly organized and adaptable, with successful experience in meeting deadlines and managing conflicting priorities.
• Experience in implementing health and safety requirements and risk assessments.
• Confident in manual-handling/heavy lifting of theatre equipment, climbing ladders etc.and able to do so safely.
• Confident in working independently but also willing to collaborate with other cSPACE staff as necessary.
• Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and some weekends.
• Enthusiasm and empathy with supporting the aims and goals of cSPACE Projects.Considered an Asset
• Experience in event management and administration.
• Experience in Stage Management.
• An interest in working closely to supporting emerging artists, new work, and multidisciplinary practices and productions.
• Working at height training, aerial work platform certification, fall arrest, etc.
• Strong, proven experience and/or qualification in stage rigging.

Theatre Technician
cSPACE Projects is looking for an enthusiastic, customer-experience minded individual who will bring positivity and energy to the cSPACE Arts Hub. This person will collaborate with our team to support our community building ambitions.
This position is responsible for facilitation our client’s event success from a technical perspective. Working closely with the Event’s team and the client, you will help transform the Studio Theatre and other event spaces at our facility to capture the client’s vision and support their unique needs. Reporting to the Theatre Manager you will utilize multiple technical disciplines depending on the client needs. While we describe the ideal candidate in the job description, we encourage all individuals with specialties and experience in technical disciplines to apply.

• Be available on evening and weekends.
• Have experience in technical support of events (Lighting, Sound, Video, Broadcast).

Wage: $22-$30/hr depending on experience
