Job Description / Duties

Specific responsibilities will include:

In order to achieve the general accountability outlined above, the Production Technician must be able to perform satisfactorily all the major job functions listed below without assistance and/or supervision.

  • LOAD IN / LOAD OUT PRODUCTION ELEMENTS 
  • ASSEMBLE / DISASSEMBLE PRODUCTION ELEMENTS 
  • ASSEMBLE / DISASSEMBLE STAGE CARPENTRY ELEMENTS 
  • ASSEMBLE / DISASSEMBLE LIGHTING ELEMENTS 
  • ASSEMBLE / DISASSEMBLE AUDIO, VISUAL AND SOUND ELEMENTS 
  • ASSEMBLE / DISASSEMBLE PROPS ELEMENTS 
  • ASSEMBLE / DISASSEMBLE SPECIAL EFFECTS 
  • EXECUTE REHEARSALS AND PERFORMANCES 
  • TROUBLESHOOT PRODUCTION ELEMENTS 
  • MAINTAIN / REPAIR PRODUCTION AND VENUE ELEMENTS AND EQUIPMENT 
  • COMPLY WITH LAWS, REGULATIONS, POLICIES AND BEST PRACTICES 
  • DEMONSTRATE COMMUNICATION SKILLS 
  • DEMONSTRATE PERSONAL SKILLS 


The Production Technician must have a valid Alberta Driver Class 5 License and must be able to demonstrate the ability to drive a 5 ton Box truck (no air Brakes). Duties will involve pick-ups and transfers to and from Calgary on a regular Basis. Maintaining a vehicle log and monitoring all truck functions and fluid levels will be a required part of the position. Knowledge of the roadways in the industrial areas of Calgary is an asset.

Qualifications / Required Skills

The Ideal Candidate

  • Level 2 Stage Technician must have a minimum of 4 full time years as a working Stage Technician in a professional Theatre, Opera or Dance company. 


Employment Terms & Benefits

  • In accordance with CUPE 4318, this is a unionized, termed hourly support staff position, subject to a 500-hour probation period. 
  • This position pays $17.54 per hour increasing to $19.49 per hour after probation, working up to 40 hours per week. 
  • The Centre offers on-the-job training, a supportive work environment, quality staff housing, a staff cafeteria, subsidized fitness memberships, staff events, and free or reduced admission to many Banff Centre concerts, films, lectures, and exhibitions. 
  • Contract Dates: May 26 – August 23, 2014
