Job Description / Duties

Calgary Opera is looking for their next Company Manager to make an impact on their busy team. This role will report to the Director of Operations and is a key member of the leadership team. They will be responsible for administrative aspects in the Artistic department and will be a point of contact for all artists prior to the beginning of the rehearsal process.

As the Company Manager your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
• Liaising with Artists/Agents to confirm interest and availability as requested by the Artistic Director
• Negotiating and executing contracts for all artists, as needed
• Contracting all Chorus members, Supers and other performers for each production
• Posting and scheduling audition calls including organizing travel for staff members when auditions are held outside of Calgary
• Preparing and submitting all immigration forms for foreign artists, ensuring compliance with Canadian Government Foreign Labour requirements
• Coordinating Travel logistics and accommodations for out-of-town artists, as required
• Obtaining artists bio and headshots for program playbills
• Developing a strong understanding of the Opera Agreement with Canadian Actors’ Equity Association and other unions
• Managing Budgets for the Artistic Department
• Arranging appreciation events for Artists and Chorus including backstage production food, closing night pizza parties and chorus dinners
• Assisting out of town artists if medical attention is required
• Attending rehearsals and performances, as requested
• Maintaining artistic files

The right candidate will demonstrate on their resume:
• At least 5 years’ experience in a performing arts organization
• Knowledge and experience working directly with artists/agents
• Prior experience with Tessitura or a similar database
• Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Experience in a non-profit environment is an asset
• Knowledge of Government Immigration Portal is an asset
• Prior exposure to Canadian Actors’ Equity Association agreement is an asset

• A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is a must have
• Passion for the performing arts and knowledge of classical music is an asset
