Job Description / Duties

We are currently searching for a Production Manager to join our team. The Production Manager reports to the Artistic Director and as directed, provides leadership, coordination, and production expertise between artists, technicians, venue and staff.

The Production Manager works cooperatively with the General Manager and Artistic Director to ensure that the Queer Arts Festival programming and productions are produced and presented as planned and in a professional manner.

The Production Manager is someone who has a passion for the arts and awareness of the queer community and has excellent production and project management skills.

1. Production:
• Understanding of all aspects of production including set, wardrobe, lighting, sound,
projection, props, stage management, etc.
• Ensuring effective production by trouble-shooting, being resourceful and adaptable, and
solving problems;
• Understanding the importance of building strong relationships with artists, crew, casts,
directors and others related to production;
• Ensuring effective communication with General Manager, Artistic Director, venue staff,
Volunteer Coordinator, and, artists, as required;
• Keeping excellent records of production activities, requirements, and contact
information, and completing all required reports on a timely basis;
• Building strong relationships with artists, directors, community partners and
organizations, and looking for opportunities for collaboration;
• Maintaining a welcoming and inclusive environment for all volunteers, artists, and
Festival attendees.

2. Administration:
• Coordinating production meetings, information dissemination, and assembling
production resources/packages;
• Interacting with volunteers, other employees, artists, venue staff, and visitors;
• Maintains documents and records systems;
• Providing research, data and reports to Directors as required;
• Operating mailing, fax and copying equipment, production equipment and technology,
as necessary;
• Ensuring productions are presented on time and on budget;
• Maintaining expected confidentiality.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Qualifications and Experience:
1. Education related to Production, Stage Management, Technical Direction, or Project
Management, or commensurate experience;
2. At least three (3) years’ experience as a Production Manager;
3. Experience (volunteer or paid) in a non-profit setting;
4. Strong connection to and awareness of the arts and queer communities is an asset.

1. Production and Project Management skills;
2. Good communication and relationship building skills;
3. Basic Financial Management skills;
4. Commitment, independence, initiative, and assertiveness skills.

The Queer Arts Festival is an annual, artist-run showcase of queer arts, culture and history. It celebrates the unique creative expressions of visual and performing artists who identify as part of the queer communities. Pride In Art (PiA) began in 1998 as a collective of queer visual artists mounting a community art exhibition. In its early years, PiA focused primarily on the visual arts, occasionally presenting performing arts as well within the exhibition space.

In 2006, the festival expanded into other disciplines and art forms. In 2010, the festival was rebranded as the Queer Arts Festival.
