Employer Profile

The Pride in Art Society promotes the production, exhibition, visibility, and appreciation of queer art and artists, creating opportunities for dialogue among artists from different disciplines. PiA fosters inclusion, equality and a strong political voice for queer communities, including historical contributions. We combat homophobia by building greater public awareness and acceptance of individuals and groups outside sexual and gender norms.

The Queer Arts Festival (QAF), produced by the Pride in Art Society, taps into the visceral power of the arts to build a better world. We bring our diverse communities together in the intimate act of sharing as artists and audiences, as we dispel hatred through the visibility, recognition and celebration of lives that transgress sexual and gender norms.

The Queer Arts Festival is an annual, artist-run showcase of queer arts, culture and history. It celebrates the unique creative expressions of visual and performing artists who identify as part of the queer communities. Pride In Art (PiA) began in 1998 as a collective of queer visual artists mounting a community art exhibition. In its early years, PiA focused primarily on the visual arts, occasionally presenting performing arts as well within the exhibition space.

In 2006, the festival expanded into other disciplines and art forms. In 2010, the festival was rebranded as the Queer Arts Festival.
