• Schedules and supervises House Crew and IATSE Locals 58 & 822 members sent to work at the Centre.
• Monitors daily the production activities and work schedules of the Centre, including for load-ins, performances, corporate events, load outs, and other production activities.
• Liaises with the client and internal departments to ensure smooth and professional performance and event management.
• Provides timely, clear and concise work calls to the business agents of Locals 58 and 822.
• Resolves in a timely manner production and production personnel issues as they arise and to the mutual satisfaction on the Centre and/or its clients, briefs Programming and Corporate Sales as needed, and escalates serious unresolved issues to the Interim Associate Director, Programming and/or Chief Executive Officer.
• Prepares cost effective and thoughtful performance and event estimates for Programming and Corporate Sales for all performances and events at the Centre in a timely manner.
• Monitors individual show and/or event budgets and ensures that Programming and Corporate Sales are appraised as early as possible of unexpected significant cost overages (over runs).
• Double checks with all IATSE department heads to ensure time sheets are complete and accurate for hours worked and quantity of crew on the calls.
• Reviews labour time sheets for accuracy and completeness for submission at ‘Settlement’.
• Fully utilizes the Centre’s event management software to provide the Centre with performance, event, maintenance and other information where it is necessary and/or helpful to all work flow and to use it for internal organization purposes such as to provide House Crew members with an overview of future work calls.
• Maintains communication with the Interim Associate Director of Programming, attends Programming and Corporate Sales meetings and Operations meetings. Meets with the Centre’s prospective and existing mainstream clients as well as clients representing Toronto’s diversity to ensure a high quality of service.
• Takes on special projects as assigned.
• Minimum of 8 years experience in theatre and production management with extensive budgeting experience with financial accountability
• Minimum 3 years experience in a similar position in a rental and/or presenting venue
• Experience with a wide range of theatrical activities i.e. dance, concerts, musicals, headliners, world music, etc
• Experience with corporate events an asset
• Extensive experience in a unionized environment
• Strong organizational, planning and leadership skills to coordinate conflicting deadlines and interruptions
• Interpersonal, team building, and collaborative skills
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Practical knowledge of employment, labour and occupational health and safety laws
• Proficiency in word, excel, and the technical drawing software most used in a theatre environment
• Ability to work variable and often long hours of work including nights and weekends.
• Must have a personality which allows for the consistent ability deal with a wide range of temperaments
• Ability to stand and walk freely and quickly
This is an interim contract position for 7 months with the possibility of extension, reporting to the Interim Associate Director Programming. In conjunction with the Senior Manager, Production and Technical Services, the Production Manger is responsible for all the production and technical elements of the Centre’s activities throughout the facility including those taking place on the stage, in the lobbies and exterior spaces. The position schedules and supervises the Centre’s full time and part-time production personnel, IATSE Local 58 and Local 822 members working in the Centre.

The Sony Centre for the Performing Arts, with a capacity of 3,191 seats, is the largest proscenium theatre in Canada. Located in the heart of downtown Toronto, the Centre programs artists to provide entertainment for the diversity of population that makes up this international city.
Seasons are programmed through a combination of Sony Centre presentations, of co-presentations with local promoters from different communities and of rentals. The season includes music, dance, comedy, musical theatre, children’s theatre, circus and a broad variety of popular entertainment. It is usual for artists from North America, Europe, Asia and South Asia to be represented in each season. Some presentations may be entirely in the language of origin.
The Centre operates its own box office (Archtics) and works with Ticketmaster Canada Ltd. for its internet, telephone and outlet sales. The Centre is recognized throughout Canada as an industry leader in both customer and client service. In addition to servicing promoters, client service includes the organization and execution of social and corporate events which augment the Centre’s annual activity.
Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, the Centre is owned by the City of Toronto and governed by an arm’s length Board of Directors.
