Job Description / Duties

Cirque du Soleil is currently recruiting for a Head of Rigging to lead our rigging team on our TOTEM tour! We are seeking a rigging professional in the live entertainment field with experience in supervising or managing teams. As Head of Rigging, you will be reporting to the Technical Show Manager and working in tandem with the Artistic Director. You will be required to:

• Manage all aspects of rigging related to the show;
• Supervise rigging personnel;
• Manage use and maintenance of rigging equipment employed by artists during performances, rehearsals and training periods;
• Maintain integrity of artistic concept.

Responsabilities:

• Manage and supervise all rigging department operations;
• Supervise all aspects of artistic and structural rigging in the upper section of the Big Top and the artistic tent during setup, performances and tear-down;
• Act as a backup rigging equipment operator during performances and rehearsals;
• Ensure the safety and security of rigging equipment at all times;
• Provide advice, recommendations and information on any safety issue related to working high above the ground and climbing equipment;
• Develop, implement and ensure adherence to a rigging equipment safety inspection program;
• Ensure that rigging and technical staff (Cirque and temporary employees) adhere to standards and regulations pertaining to the safety of rigging equipment and comply with safe working methods;
• Supervise and train riggers;
• Inspect and maintain all rigging equipment and keep records of inspections and modifications;
• Update the rigging archives, inventory, technical documentation and customs documentation;
• Conduct research, order and purchase new and/or replacement equipment in tandem with IHQ;
• Coordinate activities and supervise personnel during the setup and tear-down of rigging equipment;
• Assist with setup and tear-down;
• Assist the Technical Show Manager with hiring new riggers, managing departmental budgets and producing capital expense projections;
• Work with International Headquarters (IHQ) on any technical issues;
• Attend departmental meetings;
• Carry out all other tasks requested by the Technical Show Manager.

Qualifications / Required Skills

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

• College diploma (or equivalent) in live entertainment or theatre production (or equivalent work experience);
• Six to eight years' relevant experience as a rigger, including experience with aerial/human rigging;
• Technical knowledge of rigging equipment;
• Good general understanding of all technical aspects of a show;
• Personnel management experience;
• Knowledge of basic structural loads and forces;
• Flexibility, autonomy, team player;
• Good communication skills;
• Ability to handle contingencies and work well under pressure;
• Ability to work high above the ground (climbing abilities essential);
• Knowledge of Microsoft software for Windows and AutoCAD navigation;
• Fluency in spoken and written English is essential, fluency in French is an asset;
• Available to tour full time and to work in foreign countries.
