Job Description / Duties

The Head of Lighting will manage the lighting department of the Mississauga Living Arts Centre, coordinate production schedules, supervise staff, and help creative teams realize their vision for their production lighting. They will have a thorough knowledge of theatrical lighting, allowing them to strategize and deliver the technical elements necessary to a given production. The ideal candidate is methodical, organized, and conscientious, with the ability to schedule and delegate work, prioritize conflicting demands, and identify and engage further expertise when needed. They will be an effective communicator and a strong leader who can keep their team motivated and on schedule

Roles and Responsibilities

· Manage members of the Lighting Department from time to time
· Work with the Lighting Designers, Design Department, and Production Manager/Technical Director to realize the design of a given production to the highest standards.
· Work collaboratively with other departments to fully realize interdepartmental aspects of a given production, including practical lighting and show programming.
· Plan and manage all aspects of lighting installations, including show control and power requirements.
· Work with the Production Manager/Technical Director to achieve the highest quality lighting design within budget.
· When necessary, ensure all required paperwork is created and maintained, including ground plans, lantern schedules, colour calls, cue sheets, and handover documents.
· Collaborate with all departments to develop communication systems, implement schedules and realize the overall project to the highest standards.
· Work collaboratively with the Production Manager and other Heads of Department to plan, create, and ensure efficient and streamlined lighting install and maintenance
· Ensure that all lighting complies with regional/provincial/federal health and safety policies and the health and safety policies of the specific theatre.
· Effective operation of the lighting console Grand MA 2

Qualifications / Required Skills

Previous lighting and leadership experience is required, as well as a working knowledge of the Grand MA2 console. Training will also be provided.

Additional Information

Working Conditions

· All shifts are paid out at a 4 hour minimum
· Position will be part of a running house crew and expected to schedule themselves around the venue events
· Scheduling days off must be done at a minimum of two weeks prior to an event date
· Position is paid hourly, however, a candidate can expect to earn between 55K and 65K annually
· Position is paid daily overtime after 8 regular hours are worked on the same event on the same day
· Position is paid weekly overtime after 44 regular hours are accrued in one business week, Monday to Sunday
· Position is paid 4% vacation pay in addition to regular wages
· Position is paid every two weeks
· Position is paid in accordance with all Provincial and Federal employment standards
· Health benefits will be available after 3 months of employment

Hours & Scheduling

· The position will require an individual to be available for full-time hours during the busy seasons at The Living Arts Centre, which are generally from October - November, and then from March - June.

Salary: $55,000 - 65,000 annually
