Press Release September 10, 2020
Montreal, PQ – Members of IATSE Local 667 voted overwhelmingly in support of a proposed merger with IATSE Local 514 and the Alliance québécoise des techniciens et techniciennes de l'image et du son (AQTIS). Voting concluded yesterday evening and the members voted 94.2% in support of the merger. “This is a historic time for the members of IATSE 667 and the film and television industry in Quebec,” said Christian Lemay, Business manager in Quebec for IATSE Local 667. “By merging with IATSE 514 and AQTIS, we will strengthen our labour force, bring labour peace to the industry, and bring more work to Quebec.” Negotiations between the three organizations have been going on since 2019 and focus on improving the services members will receive, strengthening their bargaining power and amplifying their voice to government. Representatives from all three organizations agree that this merger is in the best interest of all members as it will stabilize the industry, inviting more investment and productions to the sector. “A strong, united labour force is essential when attracting work to a specific area,” stated IATSE Local 667 President Ciaran Copelin. “Our members are incredibly busy across Canada and this merger will attract more productions and more investors to Quebec.” Voting on the merger continues, with AQTIS members voting from September 10-16, and IATSE Local 514 members voting from September 17-23.
