TORONTO, ON – Dec. 17, 2015 – ACTRA (Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists) has renewed its support for entertainment professionals in need by making a $15,000 contribution to the Actors’ Fund of Canada. The Actors’ Fund is the lifeline for Canada’s entertainment industry providing emergency financial aid to professionals facing illness, injury and other severe personal hardship.  

ACTRA National is a long-time supporter of the work of the Actors’ Fund of Canada. Ferne Downey, President of ACTRA National, is pleased ACTRA National has renewed its contribution. “The Actors’ Fund of Canada helps care for industry members who have fallen on hard times,” said Downey. “We continue to support the Actors’ Fund of Canada as it provides an essential service to ACTRA members, and all industry professionals, who find themselves in difficult circumstances.” David Hope, Executive Director of the Actors’ Fund of Canada, says “ACTRA National is a great example of an industry partner that shows deep regard for the health and wellbeing of Canadian entertainment professionals. ACTRA’s annual contribution of $15,000 helps the Fund maintain a stable funding base ready to assist when needed. We’re grateful for their continued support.”

ACTRA represents the interests of 22,000 members across the country – the foundation of Canada’s highly-acclaimed professional performing community. 

The Actors’ Fund of Canada is a registered charity that provides short-term financial aid to entertainment industry professionals working in all aspects of theatre, film & TV, music and dance. In the past year the Fund has delivered almost $500,000 in rent payments, grocery money, utility payments and other basic living expenses and has helped over 11,000 entertainment industry members since it was founded in 1958.
