Job Description / Duties

The Theatre Technician will have the knowledge and experience necessary to provide the professional operation and/or oversight of all technical operations, lighting, sound, communications equipment, stage facilities, and maintenance and safeguarding of technical assets.

Responsibilities Include:
Determining the necessary technical supports such as lighting, sound, staging, and special needs necessary for events and performances presented at the facility in advance of production dates.
Design, set up, maintain and operate lighting and sound systems for theatre, dance, music, and other productions and projects; assists guest designers and the arts with technical matters.
Advising on the technical specifications, costs, and usage of technical equipment required for the individual show, and supervising the implementations of approved technical designs.
Supervising and assisting with set and stage construction and stage management. Assistance in recruiting, training, and assignment of volunteer or paid technical staff for individual shows.
The orientation of facility renters and visiting productions to safety, technical characteristics, and other areas of facility operations; facilitating the use of the technical facilities by the resident company, and others engaged by or renting the facility.
Monitoring the condition of equipment including light, sound, and rigging equipment; arranging for the repair and replacement within budgetary constraints; performing preventive maintenance on equipment.
Assisting with the preparation and control of production budgets; maintaining inventory and ordering specialized supplies. Making recommendations regarding capital purchases of technical equipment.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Graduation from a recognized technical theatre school or comparable experience
LPEC certification or comparable (or better)
Experience with all types of lighting (conventional, led, intelligent)
Experience with analog and digital sound equipment
PLASA or ETCP rigging certification encouraged
First Aid certification encouraged
Willingness to work collaboratively with others of varying levels of experience
Must be able to pass a Criminal Record Check

Salary: $23.29/hour, Medical, Dental and Vision coverage as set out by the collective agreement
