OPPORTUNITY

This Theatre Technician opportunity will be proficient in all aspects of event and production support with a focus/specialization in technical theatre lighting. Also highly desirable is a strong knowledge base in, scenic/stage carpentry, rigging for stage/events and festival/event production. Knowledge of audio systems and operation is an asset.

As a Theatre Technician you will perform organizational functions related to the technical aspects of production including acting as the technical liaison for various venues and assisting with the maintenance of production equipment. This position will also at times be the lead role in advancing, managing and directing the technical portion of live performances and events; ensuring good production quality, assisting with the safety and security of performers, patrons, staff and volunteers, all while providing excellent customer service.

Responsibilities include:
•all aspects and equipment related to lighting, sound and staging for the Arden Theatre and temporary venues in a festival setting.
•This position assists in the unloading, loading, setup and strike of all events. This can mean anything from setting up tables to mounting a full stage theatrical production. Minor carpentry tasks, theatrical rigging: operating, loading and unloading of the theatres counter-weight fly system, as well as periodic maintenance checks of the system are also required.
•This position is responsible to help promote a positive and safe working environment by ensuring the City of St. Albert’s health and safety policies are adhered to. Employee is expected to take an active role in the health and safety of all staff, users and public in the facilities or event.
•Support for internal events such as St. Albert Children’s Theatre, International Children’s Festival and others as dictated by the city.

The individuals we seek are team players with high levels of interpersonal skill and diplomacy to interact with a variety of internal and external clients such as staff, user groups, media, artists, agents, public and volunteers. This position will draw on your abilities to collaborate, troubleshoot, and multi-task.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum 2-year technical theatre program or equivalent from an accredited institution and 5 years of theatre/event/festival experience.
• Preferred candidates will have primary competency in theatrical and event lighting.
• Standard First Aid, Fall arrest, Elevated work platform and Forklift certifications are considered an asset.
• Use of AutoCAD or Vectorworks is an asset.
• Applicants should have a strong understanding of industry best practices and technological advancements of, Theatrical Lighting (ETC consoles, Automated lighting fixtures, network distribution and control) and video distribution systems. Experience with maintenance of automated fixtures is desirable.
• A valid class 5 drivers’ licence is required.
• Must be capable of physically lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, stand and walking for long periods of time in a variety of weather conditions.

COMPENSATION
$62,959-$77,487 per annum. In addition, the City of St. Albert offers a generous and comprehensive benefit package.

HOURS OF WORK
We offer a compressed work schedule of 72 hours bi-weekly, Monday - Friday, 8:00 – 5:00, with a biweekly regular day off (RDO). Weekends and evenings will be required.
