Job Description / Duties

Terms of Employment:
- Full Time – Temporary (9-Month Contract)
- Anticipating transition to Full Time – Permanent beginning July 2024.
- Based on a 35-hour work week, plus overtime.
- Hourly position: $28.02
- 1.5 Weeks paid vacation.

Job Description:
Provide excellent technical support to the artists, clients, and the community users of the Jeanne & Peter Lougheed Performing Arts Centre. The successful candidate will have experience working with live sound, digital live mixing consoles and related audio equipment. They will have a well-rounded experience in all areas of technical theatre that meet the requirements of the diverse users of our facility.

Duties:
- Integrate with the team of staff technicians, which currently includes one audio, and one lighting technician.
- Work as part of an event crew typically comprising two technicians (audio, lighting), and one backstage volunteer expert (stage/flies); or one studio technician and one livestream technician.
- Operate DiGiCo audio consoles and related audio equipment for a variety of events including mixing musicals, concerts, monitors, and livestream broadcasts, cue playback for theatre and dance events, etc.
- Complete audio setup and strike for events. Coordinate day-of needs with guest techs and artists.
- Assist in all other areas of theatre production support including:
--Lighting – Hang, focus and lighting console operations.
--Flies – Rigging and operation of a fly system.
--Carpentry – Basic stage carpentry, project construction, painting
--Video – Set up and operations of projection and livestream systems.
--Set up, strike and theatre reset as required by each show and event.
- Provide training, guidance and support to user groups, community members, and students.
- Perform regular maintenance and upkeep to all theatrical equipment.
- Ensure all working areas are well maintained, clean, tidy, and organized.
- Participate in the training and development of local volunteers (Backstage Volunteer Experts).
- Assist with the occupational health and safety of co-workers, volunteers, students, and audience members.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Stagecraft diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution with professional work experience. Extensive work experience may negate the need for a diploma.
- Professional experience working in a wide range of related production areas including but not limited to audio, lighting, and rigging.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimum direct supervision, which compliments their capacity to work with other team members.
- Have an inherently positive nature and demeanor.
- Some experience with a wide range of performance types including (but not limited to) live music, theatre, circus, dance, choir, variety shows and corporate presentations.
- Experience working with community and semi-professional arts groups an asset. With attention to patience, understanding and consideration.
- Experience working in a roadhouse facility with a wide variety of events and short turnaround time an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a safe and timely manner.
- Ability to work at heights, climb ladders, lift 50 pounds, and skill with power tools.
- Must have strong communication skills; good time management skills, flexibility and approach each situation with diplomacy.
- Strong computer skills (Windows, Mac OS) and software proficiency with MS office, Google Workspace, cue playback software, and familiarity with Adobe Suite, DAWs (Reaper), SMAART an asset.
- Experience working with digital live sound mixing consoles. Experience with DiGiCo consoles (SD Series, S Series, Quantum Series) an asset.
- Demonstrate the ability to mix on-stage monitors (wedges & IEMs).
- Demonstrate the ability to mix concerts for livestreams.
- Possess a good ear for music. Capable of mixing a variety of music types effectively.
- Demonstrate a sensitivity to the SPL levels they subject audiences to.
- Willingness to work a variety of hours depending on event times.
- Valid class 5 Drivers License.
- Fall arrest, Aerial lift, Pyro and First Aid certificates an asset.
- A good sense of humour and a strong team mindset.
