Centennial Theatre, part of North Vancouver Recreation & Culture, provides a variety of cultural experiences for the community. With over 250 event days per year, it accommodates touring shows, community rentals, festivals and ‘in house’ shows. We are looking for a skilled Technical Supervisor 1 to join our crew to provide professional oversight of all technical operations including lighting, sound, video, digital and stage rigging services.

YOU WILL:
Consult with, advise, and assists performing arts groups, artists, and performers regarding lighting, stage rigging, scenery, and sound requirements for their productions. This will include:
- Lighting design or adaptation of client’s design
- Setting up stage rigging
- Setting up production sound
- Directing the loading and unloading of production equipment
- Assisting the Technical Supervisor 2 with maintaining equipment and facilities, preparing reports, and budgeting
- Overseeing operations and supervising work of casual employees as required during performances in the absence of the Technical Supervisor 2

Qualifications / Required Skills

YOU HAVE:
• Excellent communication skills and have the ability to work well with and oversee other members of the theatre staff team as required
• Flexibility and ability to work effectively with members of performing arts groups and the public in providing stage and production services
• Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, techniques, materials, and equipment used in the operation of lighting, stage rigging, scenery, sound and facilities in a moderately large theatre
• Considerable knowledge of safety rules and regulations of the work performed
• Considerable knowledge of the technical stage requirements for a wide variety of productions, shows, and presentations
• Strong problem solving abilities and the ability to oversee operations and assist the Technical Supervisor 2 with maintaining equipment and facilities
• Ability to prepare reports and cost estimates

DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Completion of a post-secondary program related to the work, sound related and supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience working with community arts groups would be an asset.

REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND REGISTRATIONS:

A valid Class 5 BC driver’s licence and access to a vehicle for business use.
This is an exempt regular full-time position averaging 37.5 hours per week that involves shift work with irregular hours including days, evenings and weekends. This position works within strict deadlines and is production focused.
All employees should be prepared to work at any NVRC location. All candidates are required to submit a Police Information Check as a requirement of the position prior to any appointment. Clearance requires the absence of any criminal charges or convictions related to this position.

Salary: $73,903.80 annually
