Job Description / Duties

Reporting to the Technical Supervisor, the Technical Lead is responsible for assisting in the operation and maintenance of theatre equipment such as, but not limited to, lighting, sound, projection, rigging, set design and construction, and general tools and equipment. Provides technical support and guidance to theatre rental clients and users. Assists with load-in and load-out of sets and equipment, and provides other technical support as required. Responds to enquiries and concerns from theatre users, conducts tours of the theatre for potential clients and meets with clients for pre-event meetings as required. Directs questions and enquiries to the Technical Supervisor and theatre staff as required. Responsible for opening and closing the theatre building for rental clients and theatre users Makes recommendations on technical procedures and capital upgrades to the Technical Supervisor. Assists in the training of Technical Assistant staff under the direction of the Technical Supervisor. Directs the work of Technical Assistant staff. Adheres to technical requirements, policies, and procedures, health and safety regulations as required and set out by the Technical Supervisor and the City of Vaughan. Must be prepared and available to work evenings and weekends.

Qualifications / Required Skills

• Two (2) year Community College Diploma in Theatre or Television Production or related
discipline.

• Minimum three (3) years related work experience in the theatre industry with a focus on
theatre production, lighting, and sound.

• Standard First Aid certificate, or willing to obtain within 3 months of employment.

• Working at Heights certificate, or willing to obtain within 3 months of employment.

• Strong interpersonal skills coupled with effective communication skills.

• Ability to work alone in self-directed tasks.

• Working knowledge of ETC brand lighting consoles software.

• Experience programming intelligent lighting.

• Working knowledge of digital audio consoles.

• Knowledge of, and demonstrated ability in, the City’s core competencies and relevant
functional competencies.

Additional Information

Working Conditions:
• Must be prepared and available to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends,
in accordance with the collective agreement.

• May be required to travel between City Playhouse and Vaughan Studios Event Space.

• Must be comfortable working at heights.

• Must be comfortable working in the dark.

• Must be able to lift up to 18 kg repeatedly within a shift.
