Job Description / Duties

1. Implementing all technical aspects of the productions, within planned budgets and schedules, while maintaining high production standards.
2. Maintaining the safety of the workplace by helping establish and ensure all health and safety policies.
3. Creating and updating AutoCAD construction drawings for each of the production set/props designs.
4. Costing, locating and ordering all scenic elements including soft goods, rigging etc.
5. Building and/or overseeing the build of special effects, electrical devices and rigging related to any given production.
6. Overall supervision of the scene shop and rehearsal facility including maintenance, organization, scheduling, storage and supplies.
7. Scheduling and supervising the construction crew for all scenic elements.
8. Overseeing load-ins, set-ups and strikes.
9. Coordinating with production department heads throughout the season and assisting where needed.
10. In conjunction with the General Manager, overseeing all lighting, sound and video installs, levels sessions, onstage rehearsals and previews.
11. Contributing to the overall success of Metro Theatre by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
12. Maintenance of all theatre and scene shop assets and inventory either personally or by arranging for such work to be done.
13. Arranging for transportation of the scenery, costumes and props to the theatre and then, at the conclusion of the show, back to the scene shop.

Qualifications / Required Skills

1. Strong interpersonal, leadership and relationship-building skills
2. Proven ability to think strategically, to manage others and to delegate work
3. Demonstrated skills as an effective manager of people in non-union environments especially in managing, and working with, volunteer technicians and artists.
4. Broad understanding of technical theatre
5. Experience creating, monitoring and adhering to budgets, production calendars, and schedules
6. Diplomacy and tact in negotiating and mediating artistic and technical discussions
7. Ability to provide accurate staffing and production budget estimates upon reviewing tech riders, scripts, or proposals
8. Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and allocate time and resources
9. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
10. Good computer skills, including competence with Excel and knowledge of industry-specific software such as Vectorworks
11. Experience reading ground plans, light plots, and other theatrical specifications plus a basic knowledge of lighting & sound consoles are assets

Salary: 20-30K plus all rentals services
