Job Description / Duties

The City of St. Albert is recruiting an individual to join our Community Services department as a Technical Director.

Reporting to the Production Coordinator the Technical Director will be responsible for the technical operations of the Arden Theatre and supervision of permanent and casual staff to support professional programming and rental clients.

The key responsibilities will include:
• technical operations of The Arden Theatre, including the maintenance and repair of theatre production equipment, scheduling of technicians, and the coordination and costing of the technical needs for in-house and rental events and shows.
• managing all events and programs within the theatre and ancillary areas along with the Northern Alberta International Children’s Festival of the Arts, St. Albert Children’s Theatre and other seasonal events outside the Arden Theatre that require technical support.
• contributes to The Arden Theatre lifecycle plan
• Provide recommendation to the Production Coordinator regarding operating supplies, equipment and staffing resources required to meet service level expectations as part of the annual budget process.
• ensuring adherence to Health and Safety, and other City policies and procedures

Qualifications / Required Skills

• A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field combined with 5 years experience including staff supervision, performance management, and directing large technical crews.
• The position requires working knowledge of: Theatre audio, lighting, stage carpentry, rigging for theatre, production management; Safe stage operations, occupational health and safety guidelines, fatigue management, applicable fire code regulations, WHMIS.
• Standard First Aid Certificate, Forklift Certification, Fall Arrest Certification, and Elevated Work Platform Certification
• Must have the ability to analyze and evaluate the need for technical support for various events and performances, and the skills required to plan, develop, schedule, and provide the technical supports required

Additional Information

HOURS OF WORK
This position works a compressed schedule of 72 hours bi-weekly. The core hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 – 5:00 with a regular day off [RDO] every two weeks, but there will be a requirement for weekend and evening hours.

Hybrid Remote Work – This position may be eligible to apply for Hybrid Remote Work at the completion of the probationary period. Hybrid Remote Work means the majority of worktime (51+%) will be completed in the designated workspace, and the remainder may be worked remotely.

Salary: $79,053 - $97,296 per annum. In addition, the City of St. Albert offers a generous and comprehensive benefit package.
