Job Description / Duties

Staffing:
Recruit, hire, train, retain, supervise, and motivate the Assistant Technical Director.
In conjunction with the Assistant Technical Director (ATD) – recruit, hire, train, retain, supervise, and motivate technical staff.
Supervise and coordinate the venues technical staff within set budgets per event.
Supervise and mentor staff designers to ensure a professional level of work is produced.
Manage employee performance, promotion, and separation.
Prepare and maintain the Technical Staff policy and procedure information, emergency procedure manual, job descriptions and other staffing forms.
Coordinate or facilitate training of staff’s professional development.
Process payroll with the assistance of the ATD.
Fill the role as an operator or stagehand for events when required.
Create and track staffing documents, health and safety info, certifications of ACT Technical staff with the assistance of the ATD.
Implement staff appreciation programs to motivate employees and build a strong workplace culture.

Management of technical aspects:
Develop and implement annual goals, objectives, and services offerings.
Research best practices and industry standards to improve operations.
Manage inventory of technical equipment in ACT (and other SA Facilities as required).
Monitor, manage, action, and preform venue repairs to base building.
Prepare recommendations to improve or upgrade ACT’s technical systems and staff performance.
Maintain and record individualized show notes to be referenced in future bookings.
Update centralized database to ensure the correct billing for staff and extra cost items.
Continue to grow knowledge base on industry standards, trends, and technology.

Provide technical support as required for all productions:
Create and advance the venues technical information with all clients in a timely manner.
Review and negotiate technical rider requirements with clients and artists.
Provide a professional production process, commitment to artistic collaboration, quality work, and enthusiasm for a successful production.
Create, develop, and execute working drawings using computer aided design software.
Interpret and execute production designs based on computer aided design drawings.
Lead and attend production and other meetings as required. Participate in technical and dress rehearsals and other performance activities as required.
Supervise rigging of all elements of productions, including sets, truss/pipes, lights, sound, and special effects.
Manage and/or execute hanging and programing of lighting requirements.
Manage and/or execute the setup and operation of audio requirements.
Source quotes for equipment rentals and purchases whenever required.
Facilitate, when needed, technical needs/usages for events in other SA areas
Must be present to supervise any major “game day” operations.
General duties as assigned in pursuit of the results of the job

Health & Safety:
Maintain a safe and efficient workplace for all personnel.
Ensure that all safety policies and procedures are in place, all staff are trained, properly supervised, and that the venue meets all required safety codes.
Create and implement health and safety policies and procedures for the use of the venue and its associated equipment; arrange for training to staff (including freelance staff and student help) in the safe use of tools and equipment and the venue facilities overall.

Maintenance:
Create and manage a predictive maintenance plan for all technical aspects. IE base building, equipment & software.
Preform and oversee the inventory tracking, as well as the repair and maintenance of all sound/light equipment that is owned/operated by ACT.
Ensure all software/operating systems are up to date.
Create, manage and help with the venues Green production solutions.

Manager on Duty:
Fill the role of Manager on Duty for Theatre and Rental Events on a regular basis working with the management team to ensure all events are staffed with an MOD)

Minimum 10 years of experience with production technology and design.
Minimum 5 years of experience with technical, production and crew management.
Extensive experience in all aspects of lighting control, maintenance, and programing.
Extensive experience in all aspects of sound control, maintenance, and programming.
Experience with advancing touring productions.
Experience operating personal lifting devices and forklifts.
Experience trouble shooting and maintaining production equipment on a component level.
Experience using all types of special effects including pyrotechnics and atmospheric effects.
Experience in all aspects of video projection, control, camera use, maintenance, and video editing.
Experience with TV and Film productions.
Experience in set construction and basic carpentry.
Experience with fabric fire certifications, testing procedures, and maintenance.
Experience with PowerPoint and other content control/presentation software.
Experience in developing and managing budgets.
Knowledge of live production safety standards and procedures.
Ability to interpret and produce working drawings using computer aided design software (AutoCAD / WYSIWYG)
Flexible work schedule to meet job requirements i.e. 7 days a week, able to work 14+ hour shifts, available for evening and weekend work.
Excellent knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Bilingualism (English/French) will be considered an asset.

Additional Information

Able to complete the Basics of Fall Protection training program as provided by the Construction Safety Association of Ontario; including but not limited to installation, inspection, and maintenance of Fall Arrest equipment.
Valid Rigging Certification and/or extensive experience with aspects of production rigging; including installation, inspection, and maintenance of rigging equipment.
Canadian Pyrotechnical (preferred).
Valid First Aid Certificate (preferred).
G class Drivers License (preferred).

Salary: $74,000 to $80,000 per annum and a comprehensive benefits package
