Job Description / Duties

The Shaw Festival is currently seeking a Soft Props Builder to work in our Properties Department, specifically working in soft props, drapery and upholstery. We run and build in rep for our summer season in 3 three theatres, 10 - 12 shows and continue into the fall with a Holiday season of 2 shows. This is a full-time seasonal contract position from September 2022 to June, 2023 with holiday breaks and possible extensions. This position reports to the Head and Assistant Head of Properties.

Qualifications / Required Skills

This position requires an individual with at 4+ years of demonstrated Soft Props building experience, particular knowledge of the periods within The Shaw’s programming would be an asset. Our Props builder must have a comprehensive skill level with upholstery and drapery. Knowledge and competence of Fabric dying is a benefit but can be achieved through onsite training. An enthusiasm for learning new skills related to Prop building is an asset and would positively contribute to the overall working environment of the Prop Shop.
In addition to having an excellent practical skill set, a successful candidate must be able to work under pressure, with attention to detail, have good people skills and an eagerness to learn new techniques. A positive attitude and a good sense of humor are always welcome.

Salary: Hourly rate: $28.31
