Job Description / Duties

Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan is seeking to add a year-round Production & Site Manager to our senior leadership team on a two-year contract with possibility to renew or become permanent.

This position is both challenging and rewarding. Responsible for managing our festival site as well as overseeing the summer production departments, this position will be an integral part of the future success of this important arts organization. We are looking for a dynamic individual or individuals who bring a wide range of skills to the table. Though we don’t expect you to be an expert in everything, the ideal candidate will be able to identify strengths in several of the following areas as well as general knowledge in the remaining: production management, technical direction, leadership, facilities management, safety procedures and the workings of various theatre associations and theatrical production departments. The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of professional theatre process and practice.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Skills and qualities we are searching for include:
• Work history demonstrates progressive levels of responsibility
• Superior leadership skills with minimum of 2-5 years’ experience supervising a team
• Demonstrates a positive, solutions focused attitude, with the ability to foster a supportive and healthy working environment for all
• Exceptional ability to backwards plan to ensure that the hard deadline of opening is a success
• Strong budgeting and financial oversight skills
• Experience in recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising staff
• Methodical record keeping
• A solid combination of expertise and general knowledge around procedures, best practices, and/or equipment in the areas of production management, technical direction, theatre rigging, audio, lighting, projection, set construction, wardrobe, props, scenic painting etc.
• Comfort and experience with hands on physical labour, ability to lift and carry at least 50 lbs, and experience and expertise using power tools
• Comfort and/or aptitude in day-to-day general building repair and maintenance
• Knowledge and understanding of theatrical safety and emergency preparedness procedures
• Crisis management
• Ability to work irregular hours including evenings and weekends as required by production or third-party rental schedule
• Experience working summer festivals would be an asset
• Familiarity with our festival and creative thought towards its growth and development would be considered an asset
• Knowledge and experience working with QLab, CADAC, ECT Element, Mosaic controller would be considered an asset
• Knowledge and understanding of CAEA, ADC/IATSE would be considered an asset

Qualifications & Experience
• Legally entitled to work in Canada
• Grade 12 or equivalent
• Graduate from a technical theatre post-secondary training program
• 2 to 5 years related experience in professional theatre
• First Aid/CPR an asset
• WHIMISS an asset
• Fall Arrest training an asset
• Other theatre safety training certification considered an asset

Additional Information

This posting will remain open until filled with an initial deadline of January 5th, 2022 at Noon (CST). The ideal start date is January 31st. This position will be partially funded by a grant and as such is a two-year term with the possibility to renew or become permanent. Should the successful candidate be from outside of Saskatoon, onsite start date can be negotiated to allow for relocation.
Please note that as we are a public facing organization, the successful candidate must provide proof that they are fully vaccinated as per SHA guidelines.

• Salary range of $45,500 to $48,000 per year (40 hours per week) based on experience and/or education
