Job Description / Duties

Production administration – Working with Dance Centre staff and clients (e.g., members, partners, rental clients) you will oversee the planning and coordination of events including schedules, timelines, and all technical and facility requirements. You’ll gather detailed production and show information and disseminate to technical team members in a timely way. You will be responsible for the hire of technicians to the theatre that meet the requirements of the client. You will set technical policies and standards for the operation of the theatre.
You will be responsible for compiling all relevant information regarding both inhouse and external rental events, processing staffing time and any other resources required and input this information into the central booking system so that timely invoicing can take place and all relevant data can be tracked. You will be working closely with the Venue and Services Administrator to ensure this information is accurate, regularly updated, processed, and completed for expedient invoicing to clients.
You will work as resource and designated support for the Dance Centre’s own productions and programs, ensuring their successful delivery.

Staff Supervision and Leadership – You will be responsible for hiring, training, delegating, scheduling, assigning work, supervising, and evaluating support staff (e.g. Head Technicians, Technicians, FOH and other event staff as needed). You will act as a positive role model for technical team members as well as Front of House staff and volunteers.
Safety/Risk Management – You will be responsible for all aspects of safety pre-event, during the event, and post event including: event equipment set-up and operation (e.g. staging, rigging, fire safety, lighting, seating), crowd flow/control, loading/unloading, and emergency management procedures. You will coordinate the Occupational Health and Safety program within the facility.

Maintenance of Equipment/Facility – You will be responsible for all equipment in the Faris Studio, arranging for regular maintenance work and the purchase of supplies, as well as making recommendations for the purchase of new equipment and the on¬going renewal of performance spaces. You will liaise with outside suppliers and contracted maintenance staff as required.

Qualifications / Required Skills

You have 3+ years of live performing arts industry experience as a Production Manager and/or Technical Director. Additional experience in Front of House roles such as usher training, concession and bar supervision, and other Guest Services functions is valuable.

You have proven experience in producing accurate show costing in a theatrical environment.

You understand current production and technical practices within theatre including sound, lighting, projection and set construction.

You have proficient skills in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Vectorworks, Q-lab in both PC and Mac environments.

You can interpret technical and design drawings. 


You have knowledge and understanding of Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety regulations (CCOHS), ActSafe requirements, WHMIS and Employment Standards Act (ESA).

You have experience supervising staff and artisans.

You have experience with budgeting processes and information flow in office environments.

Additional Information

The Production Manager is a member of the Senior Management Team (SMT), reporting directly to the Executive Director, and liaising with other staff to provide service reflecting the Dance Centre’s “vision, mission and values”
The Production Manager ensures the success of live productions and events at the Dance Centre. The position is responsible for managing all events in the Faris Studio and in other areas of the building as requested.
Given the nature of the position and the communities we serve, the Production Manager must possess both excellent technical and strong interpersonal skills, specifically working with dance clients. Hours of work are flexible, and could involve some evening or weekend work which can be averaged out when possible.

Salary: Base Salary of $50,000+ plus benefits which include 2-week vacation, a comprehensive health benefits package, in-service and professional development and paid time off for extended seasonal closures during the year (average of 7-10 working days total.
