Job Description / Duties

The Production Assistant/Carpenter is an entry level position that will work directly with the Technical Director, Artistic Director and Stage Management team in the production of the theatre’s summer series. Chief among the position’s tasks will be executing the duties of assistant carpenter in the construction of the season’s show sets. The position will also involve working with all production elements including sound, lighting, props, paint and running crew duties designated by the Technical Director.

Qualifications / Required Skills

The ideal candidate will be a graduate from a theatre production program at the college or university level and/or have comparable experience as a professional theatre carpenter and technician. In addition to experience with the tools and techniques of set construction, the candidate should also be familiar with other areas of production including sound, lighting and performance crew running duties. The candidate should demonstrate a good work ethic, excellent and proven problem-solving and communication skills and the ability to use time effectively in meeting deadlines and achieving goals as part of a team as well as independently.

Additional Information

All employees will pay $100 per week for accommodations which will be arranged by the theatre in consultation with the employee.
All staff, artists, contractors and volunteers must provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before commencing work at Upper Canada Playhouse.
Employment Dates: May 16-Oct 2nd, 2022. With possible additional weeks in November and December.

Salary: $630 per week based on 35 hour per week.

With the exception of occasional co-productions and presentations, all shows are rehearsed and built onsite.
