Job Description / Duties

Do you have exceptional Audio/Visual technical skills to deliver shows that vary in scope from public speakers to simulcasts from space? Can you provide clients with exceptional customer service and deliver effective solutions in the moment with the gear you have in front of you? What can I expect to do in this role?
• Provide creative and effective audio/visual technical service and support to a wide range of clients and events.
• Provide a professional customer service experience to all clients and colleagues.
• Work independently or as part of a larger team.

NOTE: Please note that these positions are irregularly scheduled for 0-40 hours per week, with no guaranteed minimum. Hours are scheduled based on availability and Ontario Science Centre events. Work on weekends, holidays and evenings is also required, in accordance with the Ontario Science Centre's 7-day-a-week operating hours and special events/after-hours schedule.

Qualifications / Required Skills

How do I qualify?

Technical and Audio-Visual Production Skills
You have:
• Extensive knowledge of the principles and generally accepted practices of technical planning, staging and production for a variety of large- and small-scale events, including speaking engagements, live theatre, presentations and music events.
• Knowledge of modern sound and lighting systems to utilize a range of equipment and technology in the provision of audio/visual services across the organization.
• Knowledge of related trades (electrical, carpentry, metal work, rigging).
• Knowledge and understanding of basic electrical and electronics.
• Knowledge and awareness of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as other relevant rules, regulations and legislation pertaining to theatre operations.
• Written and schematic drawing skills to document systems, cabling and equipment operating procedures.

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills
You have:
• Analytical skills to translate theoretical knowledge of modern sound, lighting and projection systems (both analogue and digital) and technical skills into practical application in the planning and execution of AV service delivery.
• Problem-solving and critical thinking skills to resolve AV issues in order to meet client needs.

Interpersonal and Customer Service Skills
You have:
• Superior customer service skills and extensive experience working with customers in a service environment.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and political acuity to effectively work with colleagues and clients in order to meet service delivery needs.
• Collaborative skills to suggest solutions and make ad-hoc decisions by identifying optimum methods to use audio/visual equipment for quality presentations, while anticipating resolution of technical problems to avoid interruption of shows.
• Ability to comply with client service standards and policies in a unionized environment.
• Excellent oral communication skills to deal with staff and clients, and provide technical information in layperson’s terms, including advising on the use and capabilities of equipment.
• Excellent written communication skills to document processes, operating procedures, production cues and details.
