Job Description / Duties

As the Head of Scenic Construction, this position is responsible for all scenic requirements for Department of Theatre productions and events including:

- evaluating scenic requirements for theatrical productions and providing cost, resource and safety analysis.
- building scenery using established industry procedures: providing construction drawings and schedules, purchasing materials and building.
- teaching theatrical construction techniques and scenic construction management in a laboratory setting.
- maintaining the scene shop, including wood working tools, pneumatic and welding equipment.

This position will require extended working hours, weekend and evening work, and the ability to lift and carry 30 kilograms.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Theatre with at least 5 years of experience providing technical theatre support in a professional and educational environment, and demonstrated in-depth knowledge, and understanding of:

- Theatre production practice including scenic design and construction, and scenic construction management.
- Use of scenic construction techniques, including traditional stage craft, and current theatre scenery construction methods.
- Theatre scenic drafting skills and vocabulary.

This position works in a unique teaching and event-based environment and must be able and willing to work split shifts, more than 7 hours per day, and evening and weekends as required.

Assets:

Education, training and/or experience working in a post-secondary environment
Experience with CAD software, preferably Vectorworks.
Budget management, including estimates and expenditure tracking and reporting.
Research skills

Salary: $60,720.00 - $79,374.00
